The current 1A STATE champion and 8 consecutive EAST REGIONAL champion Tarboro Vikings invade county rival SW Edgecombe tonight for county bragging rights. Less than 10 miles separate the two schools, but they are worlds apart on the field. Tarboro probably needs to build a new trophy case, while SWE just can't seem to get over the hump ever, no matter how good the teams are. Tarboro come in at 3-0, after a convincing victory over now 5A power Havelock on the road. SWE enjoyed a bye last week, after a beat down given to Hertford County the week before. A little luster was removed from the headlines, as SWE thought they would be undefeated like Tarboro. However, ineligibility forced a forfeit of their first game, so instead of having a 2-0 record, they are officially 1-1. But, they are undefeated on the field, and everyone is looking at it that way. SWE's defense has been the star for them so far, and we'll need that to continue in order to have a remote chance to be at Tarboro, which has not happened in many years. Tarboro is a threat to take it to the house on every play.
No matter how great Tarboro is and how bad SWE is, this seems to be one of Tarboro's closest games every year. I believe this is SWE's best chance to beat Tarboro since we actually beat them last.
Should be a good one.
