everyone seems to be arguing over Mr. Rick but I don't hear any replacement ideas. Please add in a sensible name and maybe some small background of who/where they coach. I'll add one just to get it started. I grew up a Bobby Knight fan. The guy is a tremendous ******* but I think he's the best basketball coach of all time. He still can coach. He has 2 National Championships 800+ wins and miles and miles of coaching stats that impress. He also is in very good with ESPN since he announces their games. I know this isn't a popular pick but I just want to hear some other ideas for the next coach. Don't respond by blasting Bobby Knight either. I already know he's not a popular pick. Just tell us your pick and why. Thanks.

had great success at Winthrop ... not so much at Wichita State. He is in his fifth year of 'rebuilding' the program and has not been able to even win the MVC much less get to the NCAA.

My questions still are ... "What keeps him at State if he even has one good year?".

He took Winthrop to the NCAAs like 5 times and he is only ~49; why would he choose to come to that 'basketball mecca,'** Starkville?. We are still in the SEC.

Last five years show he can improve a program but can he recruit Mississippi and the south? (yes, I understand Winthrop is in SC but that ain't MS, AL or LA).

Think he may be the next SC coach, anyway.

ONE THING THAT I DEFINITELY HOPE TO HELL HAPPENS ... IF THEY EVER DO DECIDE TO FIRE STANS, THEY SURE BETTER HAVE A COACH ALREADY LINED UP. (ala, the Cutcliffe fiasco)

In this order:

Robert Kirby: Previous experience at MSU a success, players and staff loved him while he was here, most likely won't lose any commits
Randy Bennett: Saint Mary's coach who has put his team ahead of the Zags in the WCC
Gregg Marshall: Wins wherever he goes, whipped us twice
Scott Sutton: Consistent winner at ORU
Steve Prohm: Taking Murray State to the top 20, good recruiting rep
Stan Jones: The obvious ties, helped build FSU from the ground up
Scott Nagy: South Dak St. U, played at Delta St. consistent 20+ game winner in DII, second to ORU in the vaunted Summit League, transitioned team to DI in the last few years
Kermit Davis: MTSU competitive, MSU ties

He WAS the discipline on this team. When he left the discipline left. With Kirby we won't miss a step in recruiting. We keep the Mississippi pipeline headed to
Starkville and keep all of the in state AAU connections. If we get some guy in here who tries to model the program like a Duke or North Carolina we will fail miserably. We cant recruit the same type of player that Duke does. We have been very successful in recruiting top talent. Now, we just need someone to hold them accountable and mold them as young men. I know Coach K on a personal basis and if he is not our next head coach when Stans is out we will come to regret it. Oh, and hire Shane Power as the number one assistant.

the guy interviewed at 3 SWAC schools for a HC position and was never hired. Even made the final cut sometimes.

The reason he was a not hired at those SWAC school is because they could not pay him. Coach Kirby is one of the top paidassistants in America.

with a company for the sole purpose of freshening up her interviwing skills. She'll have her masters degree in July and will be making a career move then.... she has no desire to work for this company, but thought she'd brush up her interviewing skills before she really goes in search mode.

Maybe Kirby was doing the same.

With Stansbury we already have a guy that can bring in talent. There is no evidence whatsoever that Kirby can draw up plays any better. Not to mention wasn't Mr Discipline at Georgetown when that fight broke out over in China?

We can do a hell of alot better than Robert Kirby.

Dawgstudent. It's called a negotiation. At the end it was not worth it to take a SWAC job for less pay. He was not the one making the final calls on all theses guys. I'm a Stans supporter but lets face it. The dude is a pushover much of the time and stuggles when there is not strong team leadership.

That really isn't an issue for me. I think politics has a ton to do with who SWAC schools hire many times, so many times they don't always hire the best candidate. How many times have you seen a SWAC head basketball coach scooped up by a decent program? As a side note, Valley's hiring of Sean Woods goes against this trend. Most people think he's a winner.<div>
</div><div>My issue with Kirby is that he is so similar to Stans, it would just be change for the sake of change. He has the reputation of being a good recruiter but not much when it comes to game day. State fans had the same complaints about our offense for the twelve years Kirby was here on staff as they do now.
