Models keep showing a hurricane on the gulf coast for Labor Day weekend. Long ways out of course and things can change a lot between now and then. Just thought I'd let everyone add that to their list of worries.

Starkville sounds like a good evacuation destination

I'll just be sure to empty the freezer this time. Coming home to a freezer full of fish without power for 8 days after Isaac in 2012 was a certain circle of hell I never hope to experience again. Thanks Entergy.

Yeah I know. Just thought I'd throw it out there. In three days it probably won't even be in the forecast models.

The first rule of Insurance Catastrophe Claims Adjusting is never, ever, ever open a refrigerator or freezer.

I know the truth of that. I had a contract after Katrina to pick up every damn one in Hancock county. Duct tape proved its worth for that one. But throughout all that I never learned that freezers had a drip line to where thawed fish juice could make its way to the ground, into a drip pan that also houses the compressor, where it can simmer at 120 degrees once the power comes back on. Doesn't matter if you open it or not in those situations. Smell kept the looters away though.

It's been over 9 years since Katrina hit. That's an unusally big chunk of time in between hurricanes for these parts.
