Potential solution, but it isn't immediate

If Stoops is let go after next year, unfortunately, I don't think we'll be able to afford a big time coach with his buyout. I think we'll go the up and coming coach or cheap coordinator route. I also think Tressel will have some decent offers.

I agree about the extension. Horrible move. Michigan was on the radar for Stoops at the time.....

Just throwing this out there. Would it be possible to bring Brooks on as a special teams/assistant head coach. He could help Stoops decision making and managerial issues. We'd have to pay him a lot but it's cheaper than Stoops buyout and might stabilize a floundering staff.

Here is the financial count for Stoops buyout.

He's owed $16M right now...after a year it drops to $12M ish....so no matter how you slice it...UK is stuck wth Stoops for another two years...maybe 3 years before UK is about to replace him. THanks Mitch for a stupid extension that ties our hands unnecessarily.

We are stuck with Stoops for at least 3 more seasons. Mitch gave him a kings ransom without any proof he was worth it.

Mitch has stuck it to the UK Football fan since he arrived here. Coach Brooks figured him out and left when the broken promises finally reached a level that could no longer be tolerated.

You do reap what you sow... Mitch didn't do squat for Brooks...

OP, I like that plan. I wanted Tressel from the beginning of this post Joker mess.
That would not have worked. Tressel is on a show cause penalty until December 2016. No program was touching him 3 years ago.

What is our financial situation at the university? I keep hearing people say we wouldn't be able to afford a new coach if a better guy for the job came along. WHere is this data coming from? I mean, how much is the university pocketing out of our SEC deal and what not.

Endure one more season of Stoops, then buy him out and hire Jim Tressel, whose show cause will have expired.
It's potentially another chance for UK to hire a big time football coach. This man knows how to run a football program. This man knows how to manage a game. He's a man that could attract high quality assistants. He can recruit. So it almost assuredly won't happen.

Ironic that UK is going thru arguably their greatest 6 yr period in basketball and their worst 6 yr period in football simultaneously.

It's a waste of time to discuss it because Stoops is here for at least 3 more years.

I would sign Tressel to a today as "assistant academic officer" just to get him on campus and move him to HC the day he comes off "show cause."

You all really think choir boy Mitch will hire Tressel after getting in trouble by the NCAA? We would for basketball but no way for football. Head to your local churches and start asking around if there are any decent grade level or intramural football coaches in the sanctuary.

You sure are eager to identify problems and poke holes in ideas. Not big on solutions though.
I would have no problem bringing someone like Tressel in next year after the season. I was simply responding to the guy that said he wanted Tressel 3 years ago. You and I both know that was not happening because of the show cause. You and I also both know that Stoops is around for at least one more year. After the Vandy game, I started a thread asking people what they would do knowing Stoops and Mitch werent going anywhere. I suggested changing coordinators after the season, but people want to talk about bringing in Les Miles, Chip Kelly, etc. So, here are my solutions to the program that I have posted a number of times through the years:

1. We have to find something unique that defines our program from this point forward. Something that when Kentucky football is brought up, people immediately go, "Oh yeah, that team with the ....". Think about how Oregon originally became known by their uniforms 20 years ago, and how Boise State started becoming a household name because of the blue turf. We have to find something that makes us unique and that no other school is doing.

2. We have to find an offensive coordinator that runs a unique offense. People don't want to hear this, but maybe it is the route that Navy and GaTech. Something an SEC team would only see once a year. When Mumme started, his offense was unique (and we had the perfect QB to run ut( and it was succesful. Problem is that it wasn't so unique after a few years as other teams started to do it. I can tell you this, running a pro style offense will never work here.

3. We have to consistently be the 4th best recruitng class in the East behind Floridau, Tennessee and Georgia. This would put us ahead of South Carolina, Vandy, Mizzou and Mississippi State on an annual basis. To know that we will have more talent on the field than 8 of our opponants every year, would be a good feeling.

4. We have to continually update facilities. You can't wait 15 years between significant upgrades, remodels, expansions, etc. You do this by appeasing the University administrators and get the ability to use significant bond debt when needed by agreeing to put 60 million towards academic buildings after the previous $60 million of bond debt runs out (aka Science Building athletics is funding).

IMO, if those 4 things are done, we can have a successful program.

Jeff Brohm is a young Petrino without the baggage, but the window to hire him is closing fast
The problem with Brohm is that he is a Cardinal guy. .....entire family is. He MIGHT take the uk job for a few season but WHEN Petrino screws up and gets canned....he'd bolt for the Ville in a second . Why bother?

Can UK not afford a lawyer that knows how to write a contract. ****, I know some good ones that would do the work gratis.
