Powe not even mentioned in DL article today in the CL.

Poor Jerell, first he can't read, then gets into Ole Miss and passes his classes somehow.
Now he is hidden on the depth chart behind a true freshman.

It's a shame that he had to wait three years to play at Ole Miss and now he doesn't get to start.
I think they should make an exception and let Powe start since he is learning disabled, it's only fair.
Where is the uproar now?

Even with our two starting DTs currently out, he's still struggling just to get 2nd team reps behind Tillman and Justin Smith.

He's either out of shape, rusty, or just not that good. I wouldn't expect to see much from him this year based on what we've seen so far. He may have something click and come around for the second half of the season, but for right now, he seems to be struggling with the adjustment. Given our situation with injuries, I expect to see him get some spot duty against Memphis, but not a whole lot.

He won't know anyway. It's not like he's going to be reading the depth chart any time soon.

He may just have a hard time "reading" the plays. Yeah I know that was terrible, but I laughed... I do find it interesting that Powe was dominating (from reports from practice last year) the OL last year in practice and now he can barely sniff the 2 deep with 2 DL out with injuries and a full year of weight training and supposedly in better shape. Something just doesn't seem right. I wonder if the reports were a little overhyped to try to get the fans and school behind Powe and his quest for admission. Just a thought...</p>

Have you considered Tillman and Smith may just be better DLs? I don't know any players who could have been out of football for 3 years and make the starting lineup in two weeks of practice. Probably too much wishful thinking from those who were caught up emotionally in the Powe saga.

Just thought it was funny that he dominated your OL last year after sitting on his *** for 2 yrs and this past year, he actually had weight training and can barely break the 2 deep with 2 DL injured. I guess we should expect Tillman and Smith to blow up their blockers then, considering Powe was knocking your OL 5 yards deep into the backfield last year and making tackles.

Hell, after all the stories I heard, I thought Powe was the only person who could sit out 3 years and make the starting lineup in 1 week much less 2 weeks.

My point is that alot of Ole Miss fans (not all) thought he was going to come in and start, because of all the hyped up practice reports from last year, while State fans were just jealous that Powe wasn't on Msu's team, because they said it would be tough sitting out all that time and being able to come in and make an immediate impact. Just saying...

And no Bruiser, you are not one of the ones saying Powe would make an impact, so don't give me a 2 page report of why you didn't think he would. </p>

that your coaches were blowing as much smoke up your asses as Ron Cooper and John Blake were doing in 2003, when they supposedly looked at each other and grinned because of all the DLine talent they had....then had to move Tommy Kelly from DE to DT because Kamau Jackson had to sit out a 3 game suspension.

He will bolt for the NFL well before year 4 or 5 if he is as advertised, and alternatively, it's a real possibility that it will be hard to keep him eligible for 4 or 5 years. So, let him give us 5 to 15 snaps and progress while playing. Of course, this is my opinion and not a post disclosing any source's information.

If he redshirted this year, his teammates from the Class of 2005 would have graduated college before he took his first snap in an SEC game. Hell he has already had 3 redshirt years, what would a 4th hurt?

Jay-rell is pancaking guards, centers, and having an adverse effect on the playing-making abilities of the QBs behind Snead......of course this is an unbiased report.....

I agree and seeing how our previous staff handled things like this, I wouldn't be surprised if all the reports on Powe last year in practice were fabricated. Remember, they were the ones that chose to start Chris Strong against Memphis in the opener at MLB.

I'm sure that if Powe had been cleared to play last year, he'd have started against Memphis, and I'm pretty sure that if the old staff were here he'd be starting against Memphis this year.

Reason being, they (I should just say Orgeron) saw everything in terms of recruiting. With guys like Strong and Powe, he needed to validate their hype by getting them on the field even if they weren't ready or even if they weren't the best. That way he could take it into the living rooms of other recruits to show that he will play true freshmen. He did the same thing with Oher, starting him in his first game even though he wasn't ready.

This staff isn't going to do that. I do think that at some point this season he'll make a contribution. However, I don't expect him to start at any point unless we have a number of injuries with guys not returning. Both Jerry and Laurent will be back by SEC play, which will drop him further down the chart.

My dad went to the scrimmage this past Saturday and told me that Powe did a pretty good job busting up a handful of running plays, but he wasn't in any way dominant.

...He evidently didn't even merit a mention in the article. Anyone who expected him to start immediately was delusional. BUT, after all the articles, updates and blurbs in the C/L over the last 3 years I think a short paragraph addressing the fact that he is, in fact, eligible to play would have been prudent.

By mid-season, he'll probably be getting 20 snaps per game (none in passing situations) and contributing.

I will say that I am surprised that he hasn't made further strides to this point. I never expected him to be a starter. However, with Jerry and Laurent down, I figured he'd at least be on the 2nd team pushing to get more reps. However, even with our starters out, he's running a mix of 2nd and 3rd string, which means he's really 3rd or 4th string.

I do think he'll come along, similar to how Rory Johnson was a somewhat late bloomer in the season. However, I don't expect him to take over a starting role unless we have some major injury issues.

All I know about Powe is that he can't read but he has been at UMiss for the past year passing classes.

karlchilders[/b]]Gets in school, Probably makes Deans List, Serious injuries to several players in front of him, he is DESTINED!

The problem is there are already two DL's out with injuries and he is still nowhere to be found on the depth chart.

Powe must be using all his energy to concentrate on his grades...
I school even in session right now???

Actually, he's now apparently running 2nd team. That changes daily, but he's running 2nd team which is really 3rd team when Jerry and Laurent return.

We'll see what happens with the guy, but this is his first go around of real D-1 football, so I'm betting it'll take at least a month or two for him to re-acclimate and start to be able to play at a decent level.

I do think that he'll get roughly 10-15 snaps in the Memphis game though with the injuries we've had and with his recent move up the depth chart.
