I agree and seeing how our previous staff handled things like this, I wouldn't be surprised if all the reports on Powe last year in practice were fabricated. Remember, they were the ones that chose to start Chris Strong against Memphis in the opener at MLB.
I'm sure that if Powe had been cleared to play last year, he'd have started against Memphis, and I'm pretty sure that if the old staff were here he'd be starting against Memphis this year.
Reason being, they (I should just say Orgeron) saw everything in terms of recruiting. With guys like Strong and Powe, he needed to validate their hype by getting them on the field even if they weren't ready or even if they weren't the best. That way he could take it into the living rooms of other recruits to show that he will play true freshmen. He did the same thing with Oher, starting him in his first game even though he wasn't ready.
This staff isn't going to do that. I do think that at some point this season he'll make a contribution. However, I don't expect him to start at any point unless we have a number of injuries with guys not returning. Both Jerry and Laurent will be back by SEC play, which will drop him further down the chart.
My dad went to the scrimmage this past Saturday and told me that Powe did a pretty good job busting up a handful of running plays, but he wasn't in any way dominant.
