Just a suggestion... Think through your argument before you post. There are four playoff spots and 5 power conferences. For your idea to work, something has to change. There is a thread already dedicated to that. Others will be here shortly to ridicule you and your idea...

But, your suggestion does have merit. Assuming that all 5 power conferences don't have an undefeated team it certainly makes sense.

If they do, then SOS should take effect to eliminate. Assuming, of course, that say Oregon, Baylor, LSU, OSU, and Clemson all go undefeated (I know Oregon has already lost but assuming they didn't) then Clemson gets the unfortunate distinction of being left out. They will likely have played not a single team ranked in the top 25 in the final season polls.

Still, the ranking are a whole lot of "political". While the top 10 or 15 teams are pretty well established, there is a lot of leeway in that final 5 or 10 spots to rank who they want to give a certain team more "power points" or what have you (and vice versa) and therefore a shot into the playoffs.

Your idea works about as well as the "eyeball test" that is only applied to certain teams but not to others.

I disagree. You play a big 10 ooc schedule, then role through northwestern Nebraska Rutgers Maryland and it means NOTHING. Period. A rule like that officially or unofficially should never be put in place specifically for a conference like that and years like this. Minnesota isnt better than it was the first 3 weeks of the season and beat the 4th best team state penn by more than they best 3 losers, state penn just sicks more than them 3 posers and makes minnesota look good. Baylor dropped a spot because they have no signature win. Minnesota has a signature win. Perhaps if Baylor had a signature win they would be top 5 or 6 right now. But having teams with 2 losses in front of them is a crime.

You say that like an absolute. Suppose Baylor goes undefeated along with Ohio State or Minnesota, LSU, and Clemson. Then suppose Alabama goes 11-1 along with Oregon where the losses are only to LSU and Auburn respectively. Hard to make a case they deserve it more than any of those 6. What if next season every p5 team has an undefeated season, yet the Big 12 champ is the one with the biggest cupcake OOC slate? I don't think we are far off at all. I just put forth that your scenario has a flaw in it. Just because it HASN'T happened doesn't mean it can't.

When this idea was proposed of a CFP that would be determined only by the "eye test" I felt it was a great idea. That year (the first?) when OSU got in over Baylor/TCU I was OK with it. Just using the "eye test", and OSU winning it all, how could they be wrong?

But then, in subsequent years, they started to "justify" their rankings, using other metrics than the "eye test" like it was originally proposed. Strength of schedule, OOC games, etc were introduced into the equation. Then, things like what we've discussed, like undefeated seasons, may or may not get you in due to all the other metrics that have been utilized.

Now, its just a complete bait and switch in order to get "brand name" teams into the playoffs. Baylor, if they DO go undefeated, may still be left out if an Alabama, Ohio State, etc. are still lurking around.

If Minnesota keeps winning they will face Ohio State Big 10 final. LSU still has to play Ole Miss, Arkansas, Texas A&M before making the SEC championship where they meet either Georgia or Florida. Tough part will be getting over 2 SEC teams making sure both don't make playoffs.

A lot of these arguments is fueled by number of conference members and the way the schedule for a particular year unfolds. Having all members play all other members establishes a better pecking order within the conference. The schedules in the larger conferences (BIG, SEC etc. ) sometimes fall we have a dam playing a very weak schedule and coming across as far more powerful than they actually are when compared on a National stage. The BIG seems especially weak after getting past the top lone or two or three teams. Was the adding of Rutgers and Maryland predicated on more than just the number to TVs in their metropolitan areas?

Baylor might go 13-0 but I don't think they're one of the best teams in the country. I'm not sold on them being a top 10 team. But going 13-0 would be a shame not to at least give them a shot. There are 4 unbeaten teams in front of them. Baylor must win out. OU must win out. If K.State stays ranked that will be considered a good loss.

PSU dropping only 5 spots is giving them too much credit.

If OU beats Baylor and Texas beats Baylor then there will be a rematch in title game for the teams of last year. Which would be a bad thing for OU reaching the playoffs. Win or lose it could look bad losing to a 3 loss team. Texas next 2 are @ ISU and @Baylor so it might be a mute point.

Things will have to play out for Baylor and OU. Both need wins and some help in front of them.
