1. I'll be surprised if Bumphis isn't on the field for the first play on offense.

2. Dixon, Ducre and Elliot should be the strength of the O.

3. Russell's release is much quicker than it was last fall. Lee's delivery is better too.

4. Cox wasn't a quick as I thought he'd be, but McKenzie was quicker than I thought he'd be. I don't wonder why we signed him anymore.

5. Shane McCardell has a chance. DE is a strength (I hope)

6. The TEs look promising. Webb is a big guy.

That's some of what stood out to me as I watched a bunch of guys in shorts from a bad angle. Put the pads on and things may change.

thought Damien Anderson had a bad, bad practice. O'Neal Wilder ate his lunch early and often.

Dixon looks great. He's clearly the best athlete on our field. We'll see what happens when other teams show up.

Best fact of the night, Tyler Russell is #17. It's a gift from the gods.

How did Montrell "Choo Choo" Conner look? I just looked at a few practice pictures, and he looks like he's in great shape and could run over people. (I know we're not in pads yet)

no need to waste a year when we have Dixon, Ducre, Elliot, and Stallworth returning...burning a RS for 10-15 carries would be a waste

1. You can tell the older guys have pretty much picked up where they left off in the spring. 2. Montrell Connor is much taller than I expected and has potential to be a beast before he's done. With that being said, his fundamentals and technique are at a freshmen's level. Plus, he couldn't catch aids at Magic Johnson's house today. 3. Your three freshmen that'll play at the WR spot are Heavens, Bumphis and Thames. You heard it here first. 4. Ladarius Perkins is quit as mexican bandit. The guy gets out of the backfield, catches the ball and is gone before they call the play. Should be an impact player during some point in the season. 5. Tyler Russell..... what can you say about the kid, easily the best talent we've had at the QB position in years. (Thank goodness mccorvey isn't here to waste him!) Excellent footwork and release, but had some trouble in 7 on 7. Wasn't all his fault though. 6. Marcus Green has come out of nowhere, acting like he's finally got his crap together, wonder if he'll ever get punished for the grass. Innocent! Lawyer 17ed him! 7. Brandon Mcrae clearly proved he's our best WR, even though he favors the leg when he's not running a bit, but could still torch people at will. 8. Thomas Webb should get significant playing time at TE this year. He's huge and never misses a catch. 9. No more Croom type special teams ever again! 10. Ole Miss will lose to Memphis, South Carolina, Alabama and State. That is all......

Lots to learn, but the talent is there.
Considering this was day 1 that we could see him,
it will be interesting to see his "learning curve" in the next 3 practices we are allowed to see.
I overheard Coach Knox talking with him after practice, while eating my electrolyte popsicle,
about the different reads for different plays, and the steps before the handoff.
Again..day 1 freshmen stuff. But, he should rs as rb is incredibly deep and we will be looking to use some of them outside in the passing game.

no choice. Loaded at RB and so much inexperience at WR. Getting Elliot and Dixon on the field at the same time is a no-brainer. Or even Ducre

will both play the H-Back spot as 1 and 2 all year. Bumphis will give us the threat of the pass, while Perkins is just a beast (I've watched his highlight reel). So, I have no doubt that they will be our biggest two freshmen contributors... And if Ricco gets in, we could put him in that mix. Something I think we should all be optimistic about is the simple fact that we have coaches that understand what it means to play to your strengths. We're not that deep and experienced at WR, but I'm positive that they'll figure out ways to use our depth at running back, and some of these quick freshmen to our advantage.

One other note...Russell stayed after practice with Sam Watts, snapping the ball in shotgun for a good 15-20 minutes after practice ended.
Mullen looked on for some time, and instructed him some while parading his little baby around the field for a bit.

I thought it was a great sign of how hard Tyler will work..even when the day is done.

That being said, he has the frame to put on muscle and be a bruising RB down the road. Between Dixon, Ducre and Stallworth, I hope we don't have to use him this year.

I'll just add that there were a number of schools recruiting Conner as a LB...while he's a big back and he always need one of those, if he doesn't catch on to the offense and can't catch the ball a move might not be 100% out of the question although I'd say it's only a 5% chance.

Good to hear on Ladarius Perkins. He's a hard worker.... I remember watching him when he moved up to the varsity after his 8th grade season was over, and you knew he would be special. I did worry about the lack of competition at the 1A level..... but then again, he also consistently gained well over 1000 yards for a few seasons with the entire gameplan centered around him.

He's quick as hell, as stated, has a good eye for holes and should have good hands from the little I've seen of him in baseball. His size worries me a bit, but he has a lot of heart and he'll do what he can to make up for that. I hope he does well; good kid.

..a second-class citizen when he was on his official visit, otherwise Webb would have committed and never gone to USM.

Ah, Croom..... the master recruiter.

When Marcus Washington is the best we've got, that doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence.

I suppose if you predict great things in MSU football every year for 10 straight years or so, you're going to eventually get it right at least one or two times. It just won't be this year.
