Just turned on the television and it's terrible. In the little bit I've seen so far it looked a lot like the damage in Greensburg, KS, a few years ago. They said this one was a mile wide, and it looks it. Looks like this was in Moore ... where the huge F-5 was a few years ago, and then they were hit again a couple years ago. And now this.

Moore, Ok, is just a few miles from Norman.

Looks like it's between Ok City, and Norman, which is only about 20 miles.(Highway miles)

It is a real nice area. We stopped there last week for lunch on our drive south for vacation.

Some MSU folks are out chasing this week. They have been on some of these storms.

There is no damn way I'd live where I do without a basement and safe room in that basement. We get under the stairs in our concrete storage room. The crawl space under the stairs is covered. I may need to close it in more than it is now after seeing the storms today.

I'm living northwest of Newcastle, OK right now, and the tornado touched down about 1-2 miles away from where I am staying. We saw the funnel in the sky about 2 miles to the South west of us just before it hit. When we saw it, we hurried to a storm shelter in Newcastle, and the tornado was on the ground within 4 minutes of that and it passed right over the road that we were driving down. It's amazing the amount of devastation that this tornado caused. And its amazing how close I actually was from this thing before it touched down. The people in Moore could definitely use your prayers, and it would be great if people could donate anyway possible.

Sometimes shelters either are difficult to put. Sometimes with F4 and F5 tornadoes it still may not save you. I don't know if that area is like where I live in Austin but it would take dynamite to dig out a hole for a storm shelter because of the limestone rock. Tornadoes that are that strong can pull you right of of a shelter. I heard several interviews last night where folks said they had the doors ripped off their shelter and were still lucky enough to make it through.

I completely agree though if I were back in a high tornado area I would have to have one or a reinforced safe room. My brother lost his house and several neighbors in the Smithville F5. It pretty much killed everyone that was not in a shelter and he said that shelter had two grown men holding the door to keep it from ripping open. Luckily those tornadoes are rare and even more rare to hit populated areas... but it sure seems like they have been more frequent in the past few years.

The thing that stuck out to me the most was they only had 16 minutes of warning. It would be nice if we spent more money on research especially in meteorology programs like they have at MSU and Oklahoma.

Just saw where Kevin Durant donated 1 million dollars to the Tornado relief efforts today. Hard not to like that guy.

I was wondering last night while I watched the coverage when they would make ...

their appearance. It's hard to believe they exist. But I suppose in a free country you have to take the bad with the good.
