is still on the depth chart behind banks. I find that really interesting. I thought he wasn't going to play anymore.

the fade was without a doubt his best pass this season...Relf being on target throwing short and intermediate passes is what he has got to work on...

Note the Egg Bowl pass to Bumphis and the almost exact situation in the JSU game. Same problem at the beginning of the season and the end. And he didn't have a lot of chances to change my mind about him, because he really didn't have that many attempts downfield. Don't get me wrong, I like Relf. And I'd love for him to beat out Russell because it'd mean he would have improved greatly. I just haven't seen the accuracy from him yet.

Relf has the running game down pat and wins that part of the job in a runaway- all he has to be able to do is complete a few more passes consistently and the job is going to be his. That is what we are going to find out this Spring- Can Relf improve his accuracy enough to make Mullen confident in him? Because if he can, it doesnt matter what Russell does this Spring- we are not going to start winging the ball all over the place under Mullen- we don't have the WR's.

And if Relf becomes an accurate passer, then wonderful. No problem there. I was just proposing the Tebow/Leak situation assuming Relf does not become the accurate passer. In this system, just as Mullen did in Florida, use the running ability of Relf with the arm of Russell. But yes, we won't know until Spring practice rolls around and we can see just how far he's progressed.

he spoke very highly of the work Relf has done over the offseason to improve his passing. That could all be coachspeak, but it certainly jives with how Mullen singled out Relf for how hard he worked last summer. I think the guy is motivated to improve and win the job. Will it be enough? We'll start finding out tomorrow. It should be one hell of a battle, and I'm excited to see it, regardless of who wins. Frankly, we can't be any worse at QB than we were with Tyson.

He is not on the spring roster....seems like he played some. Yet Charles Bailey is on the roster and has never seen playing time.

Mike Hunt....he hasn't broke the 2-deep.

/Grabbing for straws....

Any ideas on what freshmen might see playing time this year? I'm guessing Wells, Carr, Bohanna, and Robert Johnson.

I'm pulling for Relf. He'll be an imposing force if he can become a true dual threat. Although if he wins, I'm sure Russell will be transferring.

I just think it is easier to throw a running QB in as a wrinkle in the offense than it is a passing QB. And the quote that keeps replaying in my head is the one after the egg bowl where Relf said hemeantto throw the ball to Wilder and Bumphis caught itluckily.

Funny you say that because that is exactly what I think of when I think of Relf throwing the ball.

..he was by far the best player on the field and looked every bit the part of a D-1 defensive lineman in high school. In fact, he made that game entertaining to watch even if you didn't care who won. JA's team marked him after he blacktopped Ritter on a kick off and there was mouthing after every play from then on even though the score was out of hand.

If I'd never seen him play, I'd have been skeptical of his signing too.

He wasn't big enough to hold up on running downs, but in passing situations, I thought he caused big problems.

..I just think sometimes people get hung up on how much a player weighs, especially on the lines. If a guy can play, he can play.

He can stay and compete for a starting job for two years, or hecan transfer, sit out ayear, andcompete for a starting job for two years. Unless he knows he'll never get to play at state, or just wants to transfer to a lower division,(which in either case would be a good indication it wasn't a big loss), it won't make any sense for him to transfer.

If I were a parade all american quarterback that signed with a team that seemingly didn't have any better talent ahead of me, and I was redshirted and had to watch a turd of a quarterback lead my team when I knew I was more talented, and then somehow get beat by a junior who significantly improved when I thought the starting job was mine, well, I might think about transferring, because in all likelyhood, if Relf beat me his junior year, he'd most likely beat me out his senior year, and I would only have 2 years to start, as opposed to transferring to another school and have 3 years to start.
Your math is incorrect. Since he redshirted this year, he could transfer and sit out this(freshman) year and play his soph, jun, and senior years.

Yes it's speculation, but I don't think it's off-base.

yes he could have three years.Same as mentioned above, but worse; if he knows by the end ofSpring practice hewon't be getting playing time, then wecould really be confident it wasn't a big loss.
