A buddy I work with just emailed me some of his predictions for this season and a couple for next. Some of these are off the wall, but the guy is very knowledgeable about college football. Just to preface this a bit, he is from New Jersey and roots for Rutgers, Notre Dame, and Auburn.

Copy and paste, word for word:

2009

Rutgers wins the BIG EAST
Ole Miss 8-4, MAYBE 7-5
Auburn 9-3, MAYBE 10-2
Miss State 2-10, No SEC wins
Cal will win the PAC10, MAY be in the Nat Champ game
Notre Dame 13-1, BCS
San Diego St. gets to go bowling
Minnesota bowls again
PAC10 is watered down (this isn't a prediction, its FACT)
Boise St. looses their home opener
BCS National Championship Game: 13-0 Florida vs. 12-0 Rutgers

Hockey 2009

The Islanders will have the rookie of the year this year

2010

South Carolina will win 2010 SEC East
Miami will win ACC 2010, MAY be in the Nat Champ game

Rutgers may win the BIG EAST and go 12-0. They also may go 5-7. Thats the Big East for you.
I do not see any way Ole Miss is worse than 9-3. I think they go 11-1, losing to LSU late because the pressure gets to them.
Auburn might win 10 games over the next two years, muchless go 10-2 this season
2-10, 0-8 is harsh for MState. Not impossible, but we should win a couple of league games and splot our non-conference games.
Spot on with Cal.
Notre Dame will have a much better season this year. 13-1??? Don't know about that. The thing about ND is they can go 9-3 and be treated like they went 12-1 when it comes bowl time
Who cares about San Diego State
Minnesota going bowling is like saying Georgia is going bowling
I can see Oregon beating Boise State and that scientologist
13-0 Florida, yes. A 12-0 Rutgers would be trumped by a 12-1 Notre Dame team or a 12-1 Cal team, just saying. I think it will be Big 12/SEC this year. Big 12 could be one of three teams though.

I'll add this to off the wall predictions.
Georgia Tech will win the ACC and have a chance to go unbeaten. Depending on what happens elsewhere, that could land them in the NC game.
South Carolina will be a formidable challenge to Florida - and may take the reins next year when Tebow leaves.
Kansas State, Michigan and Texas A&M will begin their transition to returning to elite programs. One of these three may win 9 games. The others will be in a bowl.
BYU will be in the BCS
A September 12 game in the Swamp will be tougher than Florida thinks. They will win, but it might be a 31-24 game against Troy. That will be Troy's lone loss - they will beat Arkansas in Fayetteville. At 11-1, they will finish in the top 20 a la Ball State.

Please tell him you know someone willing to bet him $1,000 that Auburn wins 8 games or less. If he wants to up the stakes from there, I am game.

.....than putting your money where your mouth is. Especially when you make outlandish predictions. Heck, the Auburn prediction is not even the most outlandish one on the list. He should jump at my offer.

Count me in on that $1k. They sucked goat nuts last year with a good coach. They got the same goat nuts sucking team but with a coach who sucks goat nuts. They will be horrible.

what besides the Auburn/Miss State predictions (the two obvious choices) do you disagree with?

/If Rutgers does win the BIG EAST and goes undefeated, do they not deserve a shot at the title?
//Im not saying I agree with the predictions, just wondering.

If they don't slip up in Starkville or against Georgia to close out the season. @ Miami and @ FSU will be tough. I figure they'll slip up once at home versus UNC, Clemson, or VA Tech...

Rutgers wins the BIG EAST ---> What is about an 8-5 team that went to the PapaJohn's Bowl that screams "potential national champion"? It's possible they win the league but how do you differentiate them over Pitt, WVU, and Cincy? The Big East is too close to call and I think they lose at least one of those. Might still be enough to win the league, but as someone else said, they might also lose half their games because that's how it goes in the Big East.
Ole Miss 8-4, MAYBE 7-5 ---> 8-4 minimum for UM
Auburn 9-3, MAYBE 10-2 ---> Auburn might not win 10 basketball games this year, much less football
Miss State 2-10, No SEC wins ---> I have us at 3-9 and got roasted for saying that in chat the other night. I think one SEC win.
Cal will win the PAC10, MAY be in the Nat Champ game ---> USC will win the PAC 10. MAY be in the Nat Champ game. So he was close on that one.
Notre Dame 13-1, BCS ---> Holy lord.....no way. Notre Dame loses at least three games. AT LEAST.
San Diego St. gets to go bowling ---> No opinion.
Minnesota bowls again ---> Ditto.
PAC10 is watered down (this isn't a prediction, its FACT) ---> Actually it is not a fact, but no need to get picky.
Boise St. looses their home opener ---> Aside from the obvious loose comment, I don't really care.
BCS National Championship Game: 13-0 Florida vs. 12-0 Rutgers ---> Completely insane. Not as bad as Gary Danielson's pick of LSU and Florida in the National Championship game, but a close close second.

ND sched is weak. Really weak... The only team they play is USC. I actually think this is one of the real possiblities of his prediction. As far as Rutgers and the BIG EAST goes, Their sched is pretty weak also. They could go 8-4, but I could also see them running the table if the stars align correctly.

/These are the only two predictions that actually hold water to me.

(yes, I looked it up) will NOT be playing in the Nat'l Championship. Just how the system works.
And especially since they'll lose the season opener.

Long time reader, first time poster. I couldn't help but respond to your friends' ridiculous predictions with regard to MSU and Auburn (particularly Auburn): If our pathetic excuse for a kicker doesn't snap-hook the FG, we beat Auburn last year. We mustered no semblance of an offensive pulse and still only lost by 1 freakin point to them. To paraphrase Lou Brown from Major League, I think we'll give Auburn a great big shitburger to eat on the Plains. And the following week we travel to Vandyland. Can anyone give me a good reason why we won't be able to pull a W in Nashville? I think we start 3-0 and then get brought back down to earth by LSU. Guys, we actually have a coaching staff now. We will actually game plan this year each week. we will win the field position battle with the Juco kickers we signed. Last but certainly not least, our players actually have hope and enthusiam about playing football again. They knew that Croom couldn't find his *** with both hands and a flashlight but Mullen's enthusiam and work ethic are rubbing off with the players. Auburn is the team still wandering in the desert. We finally have our sandals back on the path.

a few years back, Rutgers stands no real chance w/ their weak schedule and weak conference. It would take all the big boys to have at least two losses, which happened for LSU but is rare.
