But looking at it 'right now' ... he has a realistic chance to compete and who knows? There is only ONE winner, so those odds ought to be much worse. If I was near Vegas before the season starts ... would definitely take a shot.

It depends on factors like ...

+ Got to STAY healthy
+ Having a 'good year' goes without saying ... having more experience at WR, TE will help, plus RBs that can catch and can get in space can help
+ Inrease passing % is a must; ability to gain yards when pressured aka JFF helps, also; dual threat gives him another advantage
+ Team doesn't have to win the NC (but, it DOES help ... see '13) but has to have a GOOD year and beat some GOOD teams ... A&M, Auburn
+ Keeping any loss close doesn't hurt
+ Display both the leadership and QB maturity he showed in the 4th quarter of Egg Bowl and Rice game

Besides raw talent, Dak has that innate abilty to gather, focus and lead his team and the rest look up to him.

Seems like a potential arbitrage opportunity at those odds. Seems very likely that we will have to win the SEC in order for Dak to win the Heisman. Put a bunch of money on Dak not winning the Heisman. Put a less money on MSU winning the SEC. In a normal season, Dak doesn't win the Heisman, and MSU doesn't win the SEC, and you break eaven. If Dak wins the Heisman, you lose the money you bet on him winning the Heisman, but you win the SEC bet at 100-1. And I would think it's more likely that Dak will lose the Heisman despite MSU winning the SEC than it is that Dak would win the Heisman without MSU winning the SEC. Just have to find somebody offering a bet that Dak won't win the Heisman at somewhere close to 1-35 odds.

The only thing I got from any of that is yeldon consistently being higher than henry. Yeldon has never and will never fit bamas blocking/running scheme and will be overtaken by henry, who is lacy 2.0

Neither will happen. Bama is impossible. LSU seems more possible but we have that 14 game thing going on.

Edited to add...if we win all of our games but Bama, we would probably make the playoff...

I hope you are correct. However, the Thorpe doesn't quite require the same level of effort as the Heisman.

Why? At least 3 of the previous 7 Heisman winners didn't see their teams win their leagues. 2 of the last 3 didn't even come close to winning their leagues.

It's more about having a "Heisman moment" in the national spotlight of a huge game than it is about winning leagues IMO...

You take out RGIII, and it's pretty much all big name schools. A&M is basically the next weakest school after Baylor to have a Heisman winner since 1994, when Rashan Salaam at Colorado won it.

I agree with that. But RG3 is a very recent, very comparable example.

The biggest doubt I have in getting Prescott to the big stage is leaving him in games and running it up on people when the opportunities arise -- something Mullen has been unwilling to do up until this point. Both RG3 and Tebow took about 95% of their team's overall snaps in their Heisman years. We will need to pad Dak's passing stats at every opportunity for his numbers to stack up in that regard...

Actually, I'd say the odds are much better for MSU than for a powerhouse. At a powerhouse, a 2 lose season is a failure. At MSU, a 2 lose season is like winning the NC. If Dak gets in the neighborhood of 3000 yards passing and 1000 yards rushing and we lose 2 or less games, then regardless of us winning the SEC, he will get invited to NYC. Dak has the look and the personality that the voters are looking for.
