When the person being depicted is dead and can no longer do anything stupid to ruin their reputation.
Name on ring of honor, absolutely. A statue, not at this point. A statue in today's landscape should be reserved for championship or related achievements. If in 20 years we can clearly identify 2014 as the foundation for an MSU perennial championship-contending brand and Dak has completed a Hall of Fame NFL career, a statue may be in order. Anything less would be like hanging banners for national championships you awarded yourself.
Why are we limited to one Dak statue?

Tebow has one because he won a Heisman. It's right next to the statues of Steve Spurrier and Danny Wuerffel. If he hadn't won the Heisman, it's likely that he wouldn't have a statue.
I see statues removed almost daily, of people that have been dead over a century. What the hell that got to do with anything?
If it turns out Dak is waging war against the United States in order to continue owning other humans, I have faith future generations will deal with that as well.
We need a Jack Cristil statue that students put a cig in its hand after big wins and smoke billows out of his mouth.
Smoke what? Are there any students that smoke anymore?
Last time I lit up on campus the police came after me.
Should have specified national championships.
