He was NOT one of the finalists. Why would the compromise candidate not be one of the 5 that made the final round? If this happens again (Doc was not a finalist either) then the College Board should be disbanded for completely screwing up our presidential search AGAIN.</p>

I mentioned this rumor in the chat last night. After looking into Cofer more today I think he would be a good choice. A lot of people thought he should have gotten the job instead of Doc after Lee retired. As for the finalist, if the campus group included Miller and not Cofer, I don't have much faith in their decisions anyway.

that they

a. did not have one of the 3 best candidates in the final 3 originally. That makes no sense

OR

b. they are desperate to keep from hiring Keenum.

Seriously, think about it, if they hire Cofer, they are hiring a guy that they, just weeks ago, did not think was better than 1 of the remaining candidates in the final 3--- that leads me to think b is the answer

that Keenum would be a great hire which is why the conspiracy theories are coming to the surface.

Cofer was a finalist last time, and I've met him. My inital impression is that he's a good guy.

,,,if the person who notified the Auditor's office is known to be a Keenum supporter, of which there's no proof of that. Either way, the incoming president of MSU is most likely 17ed.

My understanding is that an outside candidate will not be accepted, so a compromise inside candidate seems to be the best choice.

...whether a current employee, former employee, or MSU alumnus with ties to faculty and administration.

I think the fact that Cofer is being mentioned is a sign that the anti-Keenum crowd is grasping for anything and everything. Miller was probably that choice, but he was outed, similar to Walter Wendler the last time, ruining his chance at the job. It appears that Watson is more than likely out of the running, so that leaves Keenum standing. I agree that if Keenum is chosen, there will be those who say he turned Watson and Meridith in (which I dont believe to be the case) and he will not be accepted by a good majority of the MSU family. This search is screwed from every which direction...

I agree Graddawg, if the Campus Committee included Gary Miller on their list, I dont have much faith in them. The rumor on campus was that the only sent four names to the IHL Committee, but IHL made them send 5, and the fifth name was Dr. Mark Keenum, who the faculty does not want.

Sen. Doug Davis is pushing the idea of busting up the IHL, giving each university its own board. It will be tough to get passed, but I think this situation helps a great bit.
