ESPN trying to sell the idea we are not respecting UCLA, i.e. chalking up the loss to bad luck. That's ESPN for you. There was plenty of credit given to UCLA, but yes, there were some bad bounces and bad breaks that hurt us.

Just stop with that ********. We left more runners on base than they did tonight.

Agreed. I saw an *** kicking tonight. That's not being negative, just my opinion of what I saw.

Offense got beat tonight. Only giving up 3 runs usually gets it done. We're going to have to figure out what to do with the high strike. Choke down and try to hit liners? Idk but anything in the air is an out.

I thought the bases loaded with only one run walked in was big.

We get a couple of more runs there and the game changes. But when Demarcus did not get that bunt down and hit into the DP, that finished us off. Tomorrow we get to go after them again. We can still do this.

Both teams had the same number of hits, walks, and HBP. We hit more hard ball outs than they did. We struck out 12 UCLA batters and only struck out twice ourselves. Exactly how is that an *** kicking?

THEY controlled the game. We never got close. We never pushed them, never put the pressure on them.

This isn't a knock on us, I think we did all we could do. They just slammed every door shut. They are a good team, and will be the national champion tomorrow.

Please. They had more base runners than we had batters through 5 innings. This wasn't nearly as close as the score.

I have no idea what point you are trying to make. I watched our presser. Our players and coach gave credit to UCLA but pointed out some bad breaks. Following the presser, the ESPN host insinuated we (MSU) did not respect UCLA. Create the story, make up the story, etc. is my point. If you think we were not ever in that game, you are mistaken.

Agree. We killed ourselves with errors and pop flies.

We did a bad job at keeping the ball down and when we did make contact, we hit it straight to 2B or a defender made a great play. We cut the sloppy play and be more disciplined at the plate and we can beat these guys.

Sorry. I didn't mean that. We were obviously in it in the 9th. We were dominated early and the score could have been much worse through 5. They are 40-0 with a lead in the 7th. You cannot coast for 5-6 innings and realistically hope to come back against them. That said, I think this goes 3 games. It's 50-50. If we won tonight it was over. Now it's a toss up. I thought our guys looked nervous tonight and the Bruins looked loose. Just me?

I disagree. They controlled the first portion of the game from a pitching standpoint up until CT had that fantastic at-bat. After that, we had plenty of opportunities to score runs... we just didn't capitalize on them.

I really feel like the only adjustment we need to make is how we approach at the plate. CT laid it out for us... we have to make these guys pitch to us. Even their closer just had his best outing of the CWS, and had some trouble locating pitches (despite getting bailed out a few times by the umpire). We have to lay off the high pitches and force their pitchers to work harder. I think that's the biggest adjustment we need to make and we started seeing that in the second half of this game. I think it will make a huge difference tomorrow, too... their next pitcher is Plutko 2.0.

This series is far from over.

The other thing we need to do is execute - when you need to bunt runner over, give yourself up and put the ball in play. Much better than later hitting into a double play. Work their pitchers as already mentioned and quit swinging for the fence, just put it in play.

We had a shot until Demarcus failed to get the runners over (no idea what the plan is there on the first strike drag bunt attempt) then compounded it with hitting into the dp. we had chances. They scored their first on a guy who struck out, but pinged off the catchers mask to allow him to reach. The other two hits that inning were a pool cue and off the handle (those count too tho). Plutko was on, and we hit him right at ppl. Amaratti's ball was tattoo'd, and so was the porter ball. we need rea and renfroe tonight...just settle down and play. early on it could have been much worse, or much better for us. we were in it.

UCLA dominated the 1st 3 innings. After that, we had plenty of opportunities to win the game. This game could have went either way. They capitalized and we did not.

This is

the second time I've seen someone say that we never were even close. Where are y'all getting this? We had RISP 5 times last night. While I agree that they made the plays last night and we didn't, to suggest that we weren't close is not right at all.

Troll in progress - A bad one at that.

Girodo was masterful against them all night once he came in. We played very well, hit the ball perfectly, but just not as frequently as we needed. Fitts put us in a bad spot that was tough to dig out of. I have a lot of faith in John Cohen based upon how he has progressed this season, and now that they players have seen them first hand, will do a much better job tonight. Graveman will do very well because they just don't have a very good offense and because he is a very good traditional pitcher. The most important thing is to keep on hitting those hard line shots. if we hit enough of them, we will win.

We have to be more patient at the plate. That's it. There isn't much more to say. If Frazier is hacking and flying balls to LF, we're over. We've got to work these guys down some.

Another point: when they throw a 90 mph fastball right down the fvcking pipe, we need to hit it!

Last night when they were showing Renfroe's ABs, he was getting balls to hit, but he was trying to pull everything to LF for a HR and he's swing through things. Our national title hopes rest on Frazier, Renfroe, and Rae calming down at the plate and focusing on making good contact.

These are some of the same idiots that said we had no chance to come back on OSU in game 1 of the series.

I agree patdog, this team will never give up and we have been so good in coming back in late innings all year.

I really like our chances tonight, I don't care how we score runs, I hope we jump on them early and put pressure on them.
