We need to track down a national seed, and a win today puts us right in the middle of that convo. There is a lot of talk of us "getting the 9th or 10th seed regional," but there is no such thing. We're just as likely to end up at UNC or Vandy with a loss today as we were when the week started.

The only way to ensure we avoid one of those Super Regional match ups is to keep winning.

We can play in this park, and I would honk our bullpen is good to go if needed. If we have a 2 run lead in the 7th, I'd expect the heavy hitters to show up (Bracewell, Girardo, Mitchell, Holder).

Well we aren't going to get paired with Vandy or LSU, I can assure you of that.

We can give ourselves a chance with wins over Vandy and LSU, but I just have a hard time seeing us make the jump from not hosting to a national seed in 2 and 1/2 half weeks. I don't think we get a national seed, but it's not the end of the world if we don't.

Why would we not get paired with Vandy or LSU? We were sent to Gainesville 2 years ago. They do all they can to limit the number of SEC teams in Omaha now.

Because we won the Regional at Georgia Tech that year. They were matched up with Florida, not us. We are hosting this time.

Ah yes...

We did steal Ga. Tech's spot 2 years ago. Thanks.

Well...then SEC may get 4 teams in Omaha this year......

maybe 5 if Ole Miss can squeak through.**

Two #1 seed's from the same conference can't match up in a super regional. With us being a #1 seed we can't match up with LSU, Vandy, or USC in a super. We could match up with a Bama, Auburn, Mississippi, etc. in a super.

I know that's the general rule, but it's interesting to note that this did happen in 2002. It was the first post-9/11 tournament, so I believe they were trying to reduce travel.

In 2002, the South Carolina and Florida regionals were matched up against each other.

Also that year, #2 seed Auburn was sent to Alabama's regional (and Alabama was a national seed).
The same thing happened in the Big12... #2 seed Baylor was sent to national seed Texas' regional.
There were other examples that year of two teams from the same conference being sent to the same regional.

Fair enough, bit I don't like our chances of going to any of the other national seeds in the Supers (UNC, FSU, NC State, Oregon, Fullerton, UVA).

If we can get a NS our odds of playing in Omaha this year to up significantly. Obviously, don't have a great way to quantify that, but I think it's agreeable.
