good players but let's not lose sight of the fact that they are having to play lots of freshmen for a reason. We have red shirted most of ours which is something new for us the last two years, time will tell but I like where we are and where we are headed.

it's not good to have an abundance of players on the all-Freshman team because if they get ample playing time - they have a good shot of making the team. Let me add, for now, Brassell and Moncrief look like studs.

I guessing Brassell for obvious reasons.<div>
</div><div>I think Moncrief is the better player of the two. The guy is always open, for whatever reason. I remember last year somebody saying that we didn't show him the love or something during recruiting. Shame.</div>

lbs. It just goes to show you how important speed and football instincts are to success. I like watching him play and admire his talent but I have to think someone like Whitley is going to square up on him and it ain't gonna be pretty. Physics are a *****.

I will be shocked if he makes through the season without some injury of sorts. I hope its not too serious because he is fun to watch.

if he continues to play as much as he did today. The body simply can't recover when it is pushed to those limits week after week. When it can't fully recover, then your chances for injury increase significantly.

Seems like every player the announcer mentioned was a true freshman or redshirt.
I really wish he'd have come to Starkville. <div>
</div><div>I often wonder what sort of impact he would have had on our team this year as a true freshman. If he were playing offense only, would any of our five losses be a win? I would think that both the Auburn game and the SoCar games are good possibilities.</div>

by having to rely on Freshman to even hang with the SEC. Will end up biting them in the Bear Asses.

Moncrief's"dad" is a big OM supporter. Don't think we were ever in the mix.

at home, against Nutt's nemesis, and then they rolled over. I'd hate to see what you would proclaim them to be if they had beaten Vandy.

I understand that they have a nice freshman class that is contributing early, but Ole Miss may not see the top 3 in the SEC during my lifetime. Bama, LSU, Florida, Georgia and UT are basically sleeping giants, and you still have to contend with Auburn and South Carolina(Texas A&M also), these teams have freshman similar to UM's but they are redshirting and riding the pine right now. I don't see UM catching up with us over the next few years either, they remind me of the MSU squad that had freshman studsthat includedNorwood and "quick" Nicalong with severalother high profile recruits, we all remember how well that turned out for us. UM seems to always have great recruiting classes, but none of them have accomplished much excluding their recent Cotton Bowl teams. Um will finish no higher than 5th in the West over the next few years, you can bank on that. We will be better next year and will continue to improve over the next few years with Mullen at the helmand I don't see the rest of the SEC West dropping off any either in the near future. If you can finish in the top three in the SEC, you are a definite top ten team. Nutt will not lead them there and if thet get a new coach and system, it may put them evenfurther behind. I would be willing to bet big money that the Rebs don't even crack the top three in the West over the next 5 years. We probably won't either, but our odds are much better of pulling it off than the Rebels.

but I am just seeing where these guys will be in 2+ years...and especially if they can muster up enough money for Quay and others....not saying I want it to happen...but it will.

nothing to do with can he play or not...

we have depth at wr and cb and we would have rs him just to give him a year to build muscle and then play... kinda like we did eulls

they've got nothing at OL, DL, QB, and RB and don't look to have anything for the next few years. They'll be better than losing 10 SEC games in a row for sure, but I don't expect more than about6-6 from them for a while.

That means you are in deep trouble depth-wise. We did that with Croom and Mullen after Croom. However, if they survive and have any talent, they will be good. OM has lots of issues but Brassell and Singleton will be players to contend with down the road along with several others. Very few freshmens are capable of playing well at Division 1 levels. There are always exceptions but you will not see a team of sophomores and freshmen contending for titles in football.

That being said, OM will not be a pushover in the egg bowl if they continue to improve and we do not find ourselves offensively. They will be better, with or without Nutt.

couple of years ... they have some talent, mix in some better coaching and they will be breathing down our backsides again ... Mullen turned a sharp curve in our program in only 2 years... it has to be possible for them as well .... moral of this story is stomp on the recruiting pedal while we have a little breathing room

They have some flashy skills guys in Brassell and Moncrief who are going to be good. However, it stops there. They don't have good young talent on the D-line and Morris is the only young O-lineman I know of. They will have too many glaring holes going into the next few years to be a good team. The main one is QB.

Oh my god I can't wait to see Whitley lay the hammer down on Brassell. I'm getting pumped up just thinking about it. I'll gladly give up the 15-30 yards we stand to give up from his rough hits for personal fouls just to see the beat down Whitley's going to bring.

The Moncrief-Banks matchup is going to be fun to watch too. Banks has established himself as one of the best corners to ever play for us already, but I think Moncrief-Banks is going to be a career defining game much like the Florida game a couple years ago. NFL Draft highlight reel worthy, even. Not necessarily because I think Moncrief is Alshon Jeffrey/Joe Adams/[insert top receiver here] but both players should bring all they have to the game.

Moncrief, to me, may be the best of the bunch though if you're talking about our frosh. He's tall, strong, and fast, and he hasn't really been in a full college offseason weight program. He's only going to get better. He's going to be hell to deal with in jump ball situations. Brassell is going to be really good at corner. I think we'll see him there full time starting next year. He may return kicks too at some point and occasionally get an offensive snap, but I think we'll be good enough at WR to let him switch.

We definitely have some holes to patch in the young classes. I still feel like our OL will be fine the next few years if we get some better coaching offensively, coaching to the strengths of the group.

I think our young LBs are almost as impressive as our young WRs. The youth in the secondary is pretty good too. The DL is a definite question mark though. We definitely need to do well with the great in-state DL class this year. Problem is we'll probably be going through a coaching change, so we likely will miss out on a good bit of that bumper crop.

We obviously have a gaping hole at QB in the future, unless Brunetti turns into something AND takes a redshirt next year, and I don't see either happening. We also need tailbacks in a bad way. Next year it's basically Jeff Scott, and well...Jeff Scott. That's why we will sign a bunch of tailbacks this year.

So basically, in order, my concerns for the future (2 years plus down the road) in order are QB, RB, DL, and then OL, though OL is less of a concern. Those need to be addressed by whoever we hire in November, and they need to be addressed quickly.

Ijust don'tthink Singleton is going to be anywhere near as good as Brassell at WR. Plus, Brassell's cocky enough that he's not going to be happy if he's just playing defense (I mean that as a compliment to him). I really liked the story the TV announcers told where Nix was trying to recruit him to defense full time and told him he could be a 1st round draft pick at DB. He just said, Hell, I'll be a 1st round draft pick at WR or DB.

especially this soon. Reminds of the big WR for SC. Tools that you cannot coach: height, hands, sense for getting open.

Several good individual players. Remains to be seen if they will/can make a team.

any OM player worth a damn willhave transferred or bekicked-off the team to make room for next years heppin' crop. Snoop will have a lot of time on his hands to be OM's version of 'tae Walker in the off-season. The lack of discipline and guidance in that program is so dismal that no one escapes. Blee dat'
