That is interesting. For those who haven't read the article this reflects the 2009 season not 2010. I'd really like to see this information including 2010 going back for at least 5 years. That will give us some indication of where we're heading as a program. Obviously we aren't even beginning to compete but I'd like to reassure myself we're moving in the right direction.

I could see factoring in all sports, but seems odd for just football.

  • Data came from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010.
  • Revenue: Tickets, advertising, broadcast revenue, concessions
  • Expenses: Salaries, travel, equipment, supplies, and others
I would expect MSU's 2010 numbers to look very different. I would not be surprised at all to see MSU's profit from football drop to basically 0 from this last year when you consider coaching raises and added expenses from the Gator Bowl; couple that with the fact that we might begin work on a Football only complex and stadium expansion.

I dont think MSU's revenue will go up much next year because the SEC still had the same number of bowl teams (including 2 BCS bowl teams). True MSU participated in a bowl game, but revenue sharing means the teams that go doesn't really matter - only the quantity.

I have no idea how Kentucky made $13 million more on their program, but thats impressive. My best guess is...... I dont even have a good guess.

So why would there be a discrepancy between what the US Dept of Ed reported and what Ole Miss is now reporting to this journalist. I'm sure mistakes happen but that sounds weird.
