After reading this thread, if I'm the AD at Miami, I'd just tell him "you can come here and win 2 NC's before you are 45. Only a couple of teams to beat to get you there every year". Hope we realize what a jewel we have!

The SEC West was a lot stronger this year than in recent history (3 teams from the West are in the top 10). So comparing our 5th place SEC West finish to prior years is a joke, that's apples and oranges broham. Maybe we should talk more about how 10, count em 10 out of 12 teams in the SEC are bowl eligible. Can you guess which two are not??

money wont be the reason Mullen ever leaves starkville, then 2.5 mil isnt a drop in the bucket compared to what some will pay. thats a stupid statment to make if you will only go that high

supply of it like we do so in some respects that statement was a little strong. I hope like hell we can keep him and I am confident we will give it our best shot and if his heart is in Starkville and the SEC thenhe will stay.

if we were stuck on 2.5...

(a) I don't believe we are stuck on 2.5, but I know for a fact that we are going to be smart with our money. Giving Dan a raise to a reasonable number is being smart at this point. Blowing the top out of it after two years would be dumb. He's obviously doing a great job so far, but overpaying anyone is stupid. Even if we offered 4 million, Florida or someone could come back next year and offer 6 million and he would be gone if it were all about money.

(b) I think the other guy is misinterpreting what Scott said. He was not saying that we would pay him any amount to keep him. He was saying that IF he were to leave, it wouldn't be about the money. It would be about something else -- like if Mullen ever thought that MSU wasn't committed to winning. That is what he's most interested in.

(c) This is sort of a side note, but addressing the staff is very important. Bumping Diaz and Wilson is good (nothing crazy, but enough to keep them happy), and I'm pretty sure they are going to do what they can to keep some other staff guys very happy -- Balis, for starters.

With that said, of course you 17'ers are on the rise and it makes me sick. Mullen deserved the raise and it seems to me that he really likes Starkville.
....
It might help us get loud enough to make some good changes. As sad as it is, half of our fan base doesn't give a goddamn about anything other than being better than Mississippi State.
I would have bet anything that it would take 3 years for a great coach to turn around the slytanic (as in get to a 6 or 7 win season) and thought Nutt was a good enough coach for UM's rebuilding years to result in 6-6 seasons. Just to saythat the right coach can apparentlyget either team turned around in short order, andalthough everybody is hoping for it, chances are slim that either UM or MSU are about to start a FSU/Bobby Bowden type rise to prominence.

the assistants will be addressed. The final number will be determined by where the buyout ends up. I hear we are standing pretty firm on a posion pill if we get the number that high.
Or at least build the escalation into the contract so that it moves up gradually.

Plus, if there is a poison pill, that will be an easy way to end most of the speculation about Mullen leaving. People could then shut up about moves that don't make sense (like Miami) and only worryabout it when the real top tier programs come calling.
