Nice.... Strange sporting event choice. I wouldn't think the NASCAR demographic is money well spent.

I don't know.

You are going to reach a larger crowd than you will any other sporting event

Strange? I think it's perfect.

The clientele at a NASCAR race, while at first glance is the polar opposite of those at a Panic concert, partakes in just as much happy grass. They probably just don't care about getting as much stems and seeds out.

I can confirm based on my experience at 'Dega.

Pretty sure our neighbors at the campground participated in a 4-generation wake and bake session one morning. Family time!

Interesting. Herd talked about it for like 5 minutes this morning (not the ad, but marijuana) in reference to drug tests for NFL players and stuff and mentioned how alcohol is entirely accepted by everyone even though it causes fights in stands and deaths (DUI related) while pot really only harms the person doing it, and by that he meant missing work or something stupid. He kind of lost me there.

But it's an interesting point. How many times an off season do you hear about an NFL star getting into a fight or getting arrested at a club where they're assumed to be drunk? Maybe not as much but still in the news is how players test positive for THC, and the only thing that's harming is their playing ability... which alcohol does too.

Glad it's picking up steam. Weird to choose NASCAR as the inlet into mainstream pop culture though.

NASCAR=Southerners=Conservatives=Evangelicals.... Yes, that's a very broad generalization, and I'm not trying to make any certain statement by it. But there is a lot of truth about the demographics of the population in it, and it's the vote they'll have to chip away at most to have a chance.

Exactly

I'd say, in college, there were at least as many redneck potheads as there were hippy potheads in my fraternity. Hell it was kind of funny. Freshmen year, all the rednecks would hate the hippy guys. However, by sophomore/junior year the the rednecks had either become best friends with the hippies or had actually turned hippy. It was a unique social experiment, I guess.

And you weren't involved in this experiment were you?

I agree though. It was always funny watching the transition of people throughout the years... My favorite were the one's who just didn't give a 17 to begin with.

I've sat on the backstretch at Talladega before. Didn't see anyone there that looked like an evangelical. It's a little... rougher crowd.

Weed is illegal because if it wasn't than the state's couldn't turn a profit arresting potheads.

I'd say a solid percent of Talladega's crowd are there ironically. I'd say half of my friends went every year and none of them could care less about NASCAR but it was "the experience" of living in a tent, wearing jorts, drinking piss beer, and hanging out with people they otherwise would never hang out with.

Hell, I've been trying to go to Daytona and all of the others for the same reason. It would be a lot of fun, and not because I get to watch a bunch of 1000 hp cars going around in a circle.

It's kind of like going to MLB games regardless of the team or where it is when I get the chance but without the degenerate-ness.

Whee! Lets go pretend to be poor, low-class white folk!

Just a joke, but the idea of college kids going to do that "ironically" is kind of offensive. Ya know, they's real peeple too.

I go to 3 to 4 races a year. While you might not think they are hitting their demographic, they are actually crushing it.

Nobody smokes more weed than white trash meth addicts.

yeah..

From going to about 10 races back in the day, the crowd was hard core conservative, prayer and pledge, lets go racing folks. Not exactly my type, but people who live it none the less. I enjoyed racing for a while, not so much now, but I was far outnumbered if your stereotyping people. But they are people. Who love and live things I don't exactly adhere to. No biggie... for the most part... but that's for a thread for huff post comments sections or something.

You NEVER hear about violence or overdose related to marijuana. At least, I haven't, and I work with law enforcement quite a bit. Plus, about 70% of the Mexican cartel's money comes from marijuana, so legalization would put a major dent in their operations. I'd sure as hell rather be around someone who wants to slam a bag of Doritos and watch movies than a drunk.

Haha college kids are always going to be attracted to anything that could be manipulated to be fun. Talladega is a short trip from Stark, so it makes perfect sense for people to go. Better than anything else going on in town.

But you obviously haven't been to a party in Starkville in a long time... every single party all year round is redneck themed and jorts are worn ironically out in public. I swear. I might be exaggerating by "every single party" but it sure seems that way. Mustaches are common too... what's the world coming to? Apparently NASCAR enthusiasts smoke weed now and people wear jorts at frat parties!!!!!!!!! Revelations!

This was my experience. Except the hippies turned me on to weed and 'shrooms.

I went from listening to Hank Jr and Alabama to New Order and Depche Mode in a semester or two.

I say decriminalize at the federal level; not necessarily make it legal, but just not illegal. Let the states decide what's legal in their state. WAY too many federal regulations and laws on....everything at the present.
