I’ve been in the hobby for a few months now, found some nice coins but I’ve been struggling trying to find a site to find any civil war relics here in Western KY. Any of you guys want to get together and detect some time?

I have always wanted to get into it, but just haven't. Grew up in Tennessee where there are lots of battlefields, etc.

I have an old detector that I mess around with, but I'm not that good at it. My parents live on a farm that has been in the family since the 1780s, and there are a few old cabin and barn locations that I try to search.

80, also look around where the old gardens clothes lines, wells, driveways and places where kids might have played around, sounds like a great place to detect!

I've talked with my grandmother about those things, she remembers one of the cabins and a barn from her youth. Both were destroyed by fire between the 1940s and 1950s. There were some more cabins across the creek according to my g-g-uncle, which is where the help lived. I found the old well over the winter, which still has spring water running through the bottom.

If you ever get a new one, AT-pro is a good one, easy to use and I have found coins 8-10 inches deep. What type old one do you have, I have my DAD'S from back in the 70's

I’m in Muhlenberg too! In the Rosewood area. I’ve been doing some research and scouting trying to find the camp of the 11th Kentucky in South Carrollton, and the 3rd Kentucky Cavalry when they moved through the county but no luck yet.

80, you need to get you an AT-Pro and hit that creek for some gold, if you do look for bends in the creek that the water pushes into!!!!

I worked with a woman that lost an expensive necklace out in a rural area that her husband had given her. She was super emotional and devastated. I spent two days mostly in the rain looking for that with a borrowed metal detector. The week afterward she found it on some damn jewelry night stand. Son of a *****. I made about 53 cents and found several pull tabs.

If you can make it up to Louisville, there were a bunch of Union camps and forts that were well mapped. You should be able to find them easily online now. Lots of the main current roads (like Preston) were there in 1860 and you could go by the marked stream paths to really get precise.

Paducah should also offer some opportunities. Out west it was a war for the rivers.

I'd love to search around what was once Camp Taylor in Louisville but that's "in town" now and developed.

I'm not a metal detector, just a Civil War buff.

Man just let me know if you need an extra person out there to get over it! Lol

I've got a Nokta Makro Simplex and a Minelab Equinox 600. Still learning the 600, I've only had it for a couple of weeks. Pulled an 1885 Indian Head penny with it today though!

I don't suppose you could point me towards somewhere I could find troop journals/memoirs from the 11th Kentucky Infantry or the 3rd Kentucky Cavalry (both Union)? I've searched through the Official Records trying to get any hints towards where exactly they may have camped in Muhlenberg County, but there's either no information or I'm not looking in the right place for it. I'd really love to find the 11th's camp because I had a great great great etc. grandfather who served with them.

Anybody ever detected around Perryville? I had a farmer there tell me a few years ago that he would still find battle relics every year when they tilled the fields.

I've seen people's finds from detecting around the area, I just don't personally have any contacts up there to get permission on peoples' land lol

I own a Garrett Ace 200. Used it here in TX, and in KY at my mom's old house in Middlesboro, which was built in 1898. Found a couple old pennies from 1950s near mom's. Also found a few coins and necklaces around ATX.

Plan on upgrading to a Garrett AT Pro in the near future.

I've seen bullets, buttons, belt/breast/cartridge plates, and random iron bits.
