In a recent interview, Cignetti says that his biggest mantra for coaching is "Production over Potential." In another interview, coaches that coach under him said that they hear this from him over and over.

I am a Beamer fan. I really do hope he turns it around. It would be a great story for him to be successful.

But if SC has to hire another coach after this year, I really hope the AD is paying attention to Cignett's comments.. If you look at our past hires in football, it has definitely been hires based on "potential over production" outside of Spurrier.

Beamer - Had no production as a head coach.
Muschamp - Had awful production as a head coach - was hired based on potential.
Spurrier and Holtz were hired based on production and they both were two of the best coaches we have had even at their age. Let's be honest, they both were great hires except that they just got too old.

So if SC does need to hire another coach, I think they need to go out and hire a lower level head coach that is winning at an 80% clip in their league and has shown that they can do it year after year. Just my opinion.

In my time, we hired:
Paul Dietzel, who previously won at LSU. He led us to our only conference championship;
Jim Carlen, who previously won at West Virginia and Texas Tech. He led us to out first 8-win regular seasons (2) and recruited the backbone of our first 10-win season (1984); he also recruited our only Heisman Trophy winner;
Joe Morrison, who previously won at UT-Chattanooga and New Mexico. He led us to our first nationally-ranked seasons, finishing in the Top 15 twice.

Now contrast that to:
Richard Bell who never had been a Head Coach. He was fired after one season.
Sparky Woods who had never been a FBS Head Coach. He was fired after 5 seasons and,
Brad Scott who had never been a collegiate Head Coach. He was fired after 5 seasons.
Will Muschamp who had never won as a Head Coach. He was fired after 5 seasons.

Will Shane Beamer, who like Richard Bell, Sparky Woods, Brad Scott and Will Muschamp had never been or produced as a FBS Head Coach prior to being hired by South Carolina succeed? Will Shane Beamer break the pattern set by Bell, Woods, Scott and Muschamp by succeeding as a Head Coach? Stay tuned. We will KNOW by this coming 2026 season. I hope Shane Beamer succeeds for us.

You are right. If we have to hire another Head Coach, STUDY OUR HISTORY. The only Head Coaches who have not been fired for football reasons are Dietzel, Carlen, Morrison, Holtz (produced one Top 20 and one Top 15 team) and Spurrier (produced 3 Top 10 and one Top 25 teams). Those 5 were proven collegiate FBS Head Coaches. The others were not. I don't believe though they would need to have won at an 80% clip. Not many coaches have. There are some good Head Coaches out there;
Scott Satterfield, Univ. of Cincinnati
Jake Dickert, Wake Forest
G.J. Kinne, Texas State
Ryan Beard, just hired by Coastal Carolina
Jamey Chadwell, Liberty
