Why are people so happy about this?
On one hand, I'm not sure I like the idea of satellite camps. Seems to give big schools that have the budget a recruiting advantage that smaller schools wouldn't have the luxury of enjoying.

However, if the idea was allowed and worked (i.e. - it lead to commitments, etc) it's possible that it would water down the SEC a bit. I don't like that at first glance, but an argument could be made that it would help UK in that regard.

Just curious - are you not happy about this?

I don't know if I am happy about it or not. People on here constantly destroy the NCAA because they don't have the best interest of the kids as the number one priority and, on the surface, it seems like something that just makes it harder for recruits to get more visibility. I will gladly say I am wrong if that is not true.

The people on here seem to like it because they believe the SEC was behind the decision and, for some reason, they are fine with being the worst team in a conference just as long as it's the best conference.

Multiple conferences voted to abolish it. Kids are not going to be left out in the cold because of this. If a recruit doesn't have any offers and has been to other camps in his area, it's highly unlikely a team like Michigan would suddenly discover an unknown at a satellite camp and offer the kid. Teams like UM and PSU are just trying to promote their brand and get a bit closer to elite level recruits in the south. They aren't looking for diamonds in the rough down in Florida.

The biggest problem with this ban is that it prevents smaller schools from having coaches attend camps at bigger schools, thereby preventing kids from being exposed to smaller schools. If Ohio State runs a summer camp (at Ohio State), there may be 1-3 kids in the camp who are good enough to receive an offer from OSU. But there may be 20 kids who are good enough for an offer from a MAC school or some other small school. The ban prohibits the MAC coaches from attending a camp hosted by OSU, so those kids won't get exposure to the MAC schools and may miss out on an offer.

All the focus on "satellite camps" (which have been going on for years, and no one complained until Harbaugh turned it into a circus) has prevented people from focusing on the real harm caused by this ban.

The exact same number of kids will sign with or without camps - it's a zero sum game. You may say "hey more deserving kids are maybe left out!" but that's hard to imagine on a widespread basis. If a kid is good enough to get signed he'll probably get signed - if not walk on and earn a ship. I just don't see the oppressed class here.
