I admit, I sort of like it.

The rule changes to state that sudden death only applies when a team scores a touchdown, or makes a defensive stop after a field goal.

For example, in the NFC championship game. NO would have had to kick to Minnesota. If Minnesota would have scored a TD, they would have won, if not, NO would have won. If MIN would have kicked a FG, play would continue.

that the NFL should do overtime exactly like the college game does it, except start from the 40 in the NFL vs the 25.

I don't know why this is THAT complicated.

Please, someone explain to me why the NFL sticks with the sudden death overtime. It blew my mind fifteen years ago when I was in junior high, and I still can't understand it.</p>

So NO kicks to MIN after NO scores a field goal. OK

But if NO scores a TD instead of that field goal, the game is over?

This makes no sense.

TV scheduling.

This is also why they've got the flow of the game rigged to last almost exactly 3 hrs and 15 minutes. Every game that doesn't got to OT finishes withing a window of a few minutes. So they networks don't want OT lasting very long.

And if the networks could get away with it, they've have the NFL not have OT.

a bad call and one team had better field position or some ****.

I don't have a problem with NFL OT. I could accept changes for sure, but see no point in making too many changes. And all of this is only for the playoff games? That makes even less sense.

and after that, it's sudden death. Just play it like a regular game.

Kickoff and Team A will punt or score.
If Team A scores, you kickoff and the other team gets a shot.
If Team A has to punt and if the other team scores, game over.
If Team A turns it over and Team B defense scores, game over.
If you are tied after the first possesion for each team, then it's sudden death.
Play 2 15 min quarters if you need to.

It's not rocket surgery.

If they change it they should just go with the college rules except maybe start at the 50 or something. Also if they are still tied after one OT then it goes to two point conversions.

No way the NFL will adopt that now. They can't come off seeming like they copied some cheap second rate football league.

It's amazing the UFL could come up with such a perfect OT in the first year of existence, while the NFL continues to have one of the worst OTs in all of football.

Who ever scores a TD first wins
Kicking a FG to me is kind of like a cop out make them take it to the house.

If we are going to have sudden death at all, just go straight to it. I think it has been shown that both teams generally get a shot anyways.

In all of this, what happens if a defensive touchdown is scored? Or if there is a turnover on the kickoff return? Or what if the kicking team sneaks in on onside kick and recovers it?

I just don't see the big deal about the sudden death issue. They played four full quarters to try to decide the game.
