they took the bat-flip 3 run jack that, without context, may not look so great and loss overall very well and handled themselves well. waited for us to take our victory lap and without pouting, waited in their dugout for us to shake hands. Esquer is a good man for that.

Completely agree. That's my first observation of Esquer. That's one impressive dude and appears to be a great guy to play for.

Very much agree. Just plain class all around from that club. And it definitely starts at the top. And some of their players took the time to talk to some little bulldogs, sign a couple autographs and then I saw the left fielder took a pic sitting on top of the fence with our fans around him. Good dudes.

Yeah. Really impressed with him and their whole team. I would love for us to play them in a couple of pre-conference weekend home-and-home series in the next few years.

Here's another reason from Rick's article (https://mississippitoday.org/2019/0...itty-pitching-lift-state-to-game-one-victory/) Saturday night.

Poignant scene: During the delay, Stanford coach David Esquer put his arm around Skelton, obviously trying to comfort him. Said Esquer afterward, “At that point, it is not Mississippi State versus Stanford. It is everybody pulling together saying prayers for the health of another ballplayer. They seemed to be really concerned about it so we just wanted to make sure we were saying prayers, too, and hoping for the best.”

Yeah the bat flip wasn’t a disrespect to the pitcher or Stanford. That was as emotional of a game as I’ve ever seen. The fans were awesome letting these guys know how much they were appreciated. Plumlee was almost in tears walking off the mound because he was so overwhelmed. And then the Jake chants in the 9th that leads to a hit and then the Mac chants. I think Mac has been dealing with a lot with him being in a mini slump per say, dealing with injury, not getting drafted and then this being his last at bat at the Dude and what an at bat it was. It was just pure emotion from Mac that was in the moment and it was awesome. No matter what happens this team will always be my favorite just from how these guys love being around each other and love having that Mississippi State on their chest. Can’t wait for the World Series.

I’ve watched a lot of State baseball over the past 2-3 years, and last night couldn’t have been scripted any better. It was like an encore from an ensemble band. The 9th inning was just perfect. Mangum getting a base hit in his last Dudy Noble at-bat, McNamee with a 3 run shot that harkened to last postseason, and Gordon pitching a perfect B9. It felt like the perfect goodbye. Hell even I got nostalgic watching it. It felt like a coronation. With that said, the job is just starting. Looking forward to watching this group finish the job in Omaha.

Very much a class act with them waiting in the dugout, hanging on the rail, while our guys did the victory lap. That would have been hard to do for me, but shows what kind of program Stanford has and what kind of coach Esquer is.

I had a few of their fans tell me on our way out to go win it all, I told them that was the plan.

The 9th was so perfect that had this been a movie the viewers would have been like, "pulease, real life doesn't work that way."

I don't know that I've ever felt as much emotion during a sporting event as I did during that 9th inning, and I wasn't even there. Just unbelievable. This is a team I couldn't forget if I lived to be 900 years old.
