IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson:

“Information was recently brought to the administration at Proviso East High School regarding the potential use of an ineligible student-athlete on its football team. After a joint investigation by Proviso East and the IHSA, it was determined that the student-athlete was in fact ineligible for non-compliance with multiple IHSA by-laws. The IHSA determined that the ineligible student-athlete played a significant factor in four victories by the Proviso East football team, all of which will be forfeited as a result. The following contests will now be ruled 1-0 forfeit loses by Proviso East:
Week 1 vs. North Chicago on August 31, 2019
Week 3 vs. Addison Trail on September 13, 2019
Week 5 vs. Leyden on September 28, 2019
Week 6 vs. Morton on October 4, 2019
The ineligible student-athlete did not participate in Proviso East’s victories in Week 7 and Week 8.”

From a strictly numbers perspective, it Knocks Pirates out of playoffs and May cost some teams needed playoff points but none of the four teams that just picked up a forfeit win will really benefit from the W. Three of the teams can’t get to five wins and the one team now 4-4 is facing a powerhouse team in Week 9. That in theory moves the 4-5 powerhouses one Team closer to getting into the playoffs.

Is the potential CPS playoff-eligibility discussion commented on in different threads on this site recently based on the IHSA by-laws? If so, it will be interesting to see if they stick to their precious by-laws when it comes to the Chicago schools. If they waive rules for these teams to be able to compete, then I really question what use rules and by-laws really are. In fact, no school should ever take them seriously again unless and until they thoroughly explain exactly what is going on in that organization.

On the other hand, if they do end up applying the rules and by-laws equitably, then maybe that will show that they at least believe in the policies they have adopted. And no, I'm not turning blue, because I'm not holding my breath.

simeon young and several other teams season ended today. I guess your little theory didn’t hold up so good.

Huh? He basically said the IHSA needs to stick to their rules or lose future credibility and that this situation would test their resolve to stick to their rules.

And as it turns out, so far they have. He had no theory and nothing he said “didn’t hold up” as you say.
