Anyone that has a hot water recirculation pump for instant hot water, if you didn't know, that sucker is a vampire. Just moved into a new house. It has propane heat, fireplace, and range, but an electric hot water heater (40 gallon tank with recirculation pump.) No AC. So I figured my electric bill should be in the $50-60 range. I get the first bill on the 6th and its $120. I noticed the instant hot water was always on. Went checked the timer and it was on from 5:00 AM until 10:00 PM. I cut it down to 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM that day and I have cut my electricity use almost perfectly in half.
Do yourself a favor this week. Go find your energy vampires if you haven't done a sweep lately. I just saved myself $600 for the year. Told Mrs. Socks its all going to whiskey since she would have never figured it out.
