Rocco is just a tougher, alpha dog.Exactly - his left knee. Bogus. Rocco shook his confidence
David will be fine.He dropped a lot of weight. He thought he would be redshirting just 2 weeks ago. Give him a couple more weeks to get into good shape and keeping his weight down. He’ll be fine moving forward
I wonder if the coaches got fixated on the neutral danger challenge and didn’t really take the takedown possibility into account. Or maybe since it was thrown before that position you mention they couldn’t challenge the takedown action.Thought the challenge should have been to cause lock was broken vs danger. Why wasnt that 3?
Dang. If only Cael and Casey knew something about bottom wrestling.Shane needs better Hand Control on bottom against good guys who can ride. Hand Control is his Key on bottom !
Didn’t understand not counting riding time during the stalling count on the legs. Had Rocco with 27 secondswow, that was a battle, especially with Ferrari doing so little.
Nice job, Rocco Welsh!
As soon as stalling is called riding time stops. Give bottom wrestler a few seconds to escapeDidn’t understand not counting riding time during the stalling count on the legs. Had Rocco with 27 seconds
Brands’ full interview in the tweet below:
Worked out, but why didn’t Rocco go neutral? If he was ridden out, we lose.
I've stated before that Cael would do this probably as long as he thought they would still win the dual. That win didn't matter as much as showing you that you can get out or what you have to work on to get out in the big match.Thought the same
Yeah except Brands has multiple national championships.Sounds like James Franklin.![]()
I see what you did there.184- #4 Rocco Welsh vs. #1 Angelo Ferrari
Period 1:
Big match here. Let's go Rocco! Ferrari immediately drops to 1-knee. Rocco taps at the head. Ferrari pops to his feet, but only for a moment. Rocco reaches for a leg, but can't get there. Ferrari is planted on his knee. Collar ties & hand fighting for a moment, then Ferrari goes back to 1-knee. Rocco takes Ferrari near the edge. Ferrari pushes back to center & drops back to 1-knee. How is this wrestling? Ferrari just sits there on 1-knee doing nothing. Brief tie-up to end the period. 0-0

Ferrari works back to a quadpod, then gets a whizzer, turns & gets the escape, 1-0. Rocco presses forward. Ferrari is spending most of his time on 1-knee. Tying up in the center now, then Ferrari goes back to a knee. Ferrari reaches for a leg, but can't get there. Time expires. 1-0 Ferrari
Period 3:
Rocco takes down. He works to his feet, but can't get hand control. He finally does & gets the escape, 1-1. Riding time is not an issue. Rocco presses forward. Ferrari stays on a knee, then they tie up. Rocco shoots & gets to a leg, but Ferrari fights free. Out of bounds & neutral restart. Ferrari takes his time getting back. With all the kneeling, Ferrari looks like he's ready to put in some work at a glory hole. Ferrari finally gets a stall call, then drops back to 1-knee. Rocco looks for an opening, but Ferrari is planted on a knee & time expires.

I agree, Rocco wrestles very much like Carter.By the way that Rocco match was directly out of the Carter Starocci handbook on how to win close matches.
Welse won that match by his Top wrestling. Wish all of our guys were tougher on Top. I’d bet Casey taught him well.Liking the Welsh for Ryder trade more and more.
Love that win for Rocco. Reminded me of Carter’s early years when he would grind one out. Refusing to quit.Liking the Welsh for Ryder trade more and more.
Thanks. Didn’t know that!,As soon as stalling is called riding time stops. Give bottom wrestler a few seconds to escape
The shotmobile would get passed around the team?Dude. If someone is offering me a cortisone shot, I’m taking it! Those things are magic.
I’ve always thought an enterprising fella could have a cortisone shotmobile and travel around to ski resorts making bank with all the old weekend warriors needing a little help with creaky joints.
Fly in a day later, get your shot and hang out for the day - feel like a new man the next day as you tear up the slopes
I liked iowa wrestling alot till I followed that board for a bit, I know they are only 10% of the fan base but that is the fan base that know and dont really care for, well honestly most of them but not all.Something ironic about reading the Iowa board talking about being done with the program, not watching it anymore, and tickets being available for sale while they accuse us of only knowing wrestling existed since 2010.
Oh jeesh. Lord....why did you create me to be right about everything?Anyone watching the AJ Ferrari match. I think after the latest black eye he's abandoning the Jesus shtick and on his way back to being the insufferable a** wipe he's always been...
Yeah so he’s an AA candidate. Really good wrestler. Struggles in big matches and makes some silly mistakes.Didn’t he finish 5th just last year? With bonus on “Big Session V”?
Watch his older brothers match tonight against Minny a stall tactic did work for him but the ref caught on quickly.I think Rocco wrestled that match absolutely perfectly. When Ferrari starts doing the one knee stall, it usually frustrates his opponents and they end up taking a careless shot, exactly what Ferrari wants. Rocco didn't fall for that trap. Let Ferrari kneel all day long if he wants. Draw attention to it. Eventually the ref is going to have to call someone for stalling, and it'll be no question who that person is. And this ref waited a really long time in my opinion. Most of them will hit him a second time before it even gets to OT.
That board is nothing anymore. They are broke. The fans there don't even put up a fight anymore. We'll, other than against each other I mean. I'm almost kinda sad about it to be honest...I liked iowa wrestling alot till I followed that board for a bit, I know they are only 10% of the fan base but that is the fan base that know and dont really care for, well honestly most of them but not all.
Kueter is in some danger of not qualifying for nationals. The biggest indictment of the Brands' coaching is Kueter. Guy is taller, has the weight advantage and is ranked higher than Cole but he's petrified to take a shot. It's insane.
Not playing stupid, but it's a 5 count. Shouldn't it be default 25. The ref said to Rocco let's go, we all know it should be 30.Didn’t understand not counting riding time during the stalling count on the legs. Had Rocco with 27 seconds
It isn't stalling until they get to "5."Not playing stupid, but it's a 5 count. Shouldn't it be default 25. The ref said to Rocco let's go, we all know it should be 30.
Bailey has 4 losses, one was an MFF at a tourney.Yep - Davis' neutral defense is suspect when he is tied or behind (i.e., has to maintain the ability to score). The TD he gave up in 1st Period was way too easy - Bailey pushed into him from tied position, as soon as Davis pushed back, he essentially walked directly into leg pick at the knee. Way too easy especially given that Bailey had 5 losses coming into match.
No you’re not. You’re sad because you’re getting less openings to get someone over there spooled up.That board is nothing anymore. They are broke. The fans there don't even put up a fight anymore. We'll, other than against each other I mean. I'm almost kinda sad about it to be honest...
Not a chance.I'd bet they change the rules next year because of that match, I'd bet even more if he continues to do that in multiple matches. That cannot continue to happen that 100% kills the vibe for viewer's, no one wants to watch that not even Ferrari's family!
He would have got hurtIf we had Nagao, think we would have got the shutout.
