Probably going to be unpopular opinion, but felt Davis in 3rd period was just trying to get another stall call on Bailey. It was really just a bunch of faux 1/2 shots, never seemed to be really committed to any of them. Like others have said, think he’ll be fine as conditioning improves and will avenge this loss.
Hard to get to a control tie when the opponent is hand fighting while backing away. I don't see Davis as the explosive type from space.

I'll give this one more shot, then drop it. Did Angelo do the hand shakes at the end of the meet? I was watching on TV and didn't notice him, but they cut out coverage before everyone shook.

Maybe he was getting an MRI on his damaged kneecap from jamming it into the mat so many times?

Angelo is going to have to do workouts with AJ, he didn't out-muscle Rocco. Also watched McEnelly and Allred, Allred didn't shoot and McEnelly was in on 3 or 4 shots and couldn't finish, he did hit a beautiful duck under in OT to win, but I think Rocco can take him, he has more horsepower than Allred. Would be nice to see Rocco the #1 seed at B1Gs and McEnelly/Ferarri in the semis.
He did shake hands. It was actually very respectful and something I would like to see more of, especially at this level. He looked at Welsh quickly as soon as the match was over and gave the slight head nod that said “yep, you got that one” and they quickly just slapped hands and he walked away. These guys are total warriors, all these guys are, and I think quickly slapping hands at the end acknowledging the match is fine compared to the loser having to hang around with the ref holding his wrist waiting to raise the other guys hand. Probably not the right approach in high school and under, but at this level with two guys who are literally world class, there’s respect there whether they admit it or not.

Yeah, he said it was the best thing for Kennedy and the best thing for the team. I think it was bad for both. How he is coaching now is the complete antithesis of how he wrestled then.
Poor Gabe Arnold. Last year he wanted to wrestle Starocci and Brands wouldn't let him. I said at the time that if I were Arnold, I would have strongly considered walking down the tunnel and just keep on walking.

This year, Tom sits Kennedy, presumably to protect his seed, and throws Gabe out in a situation where he'll make no difference to the final team result.

So he likes his guys. This guy should be coaching 10 yr olds
Years ago a long time serious HR poster said that coaching at the HS level would be the perfect fit for the brothers. He was shouted down, but I think he may have been right. I thought about this because I read one of his posts today after what seemed like a Long absence.

I have mixed feelings about the brothers leaving; on the one hand it’s fun to see them and their antics mat-side, be the heel/ bad guys, you wanna punch ‘em at times, at press conferences where you can watch them intimidate their ever-dwindling press corps and fan base. Other times I want them to stay right where they are until their contract runs out - and get an extension.

In fairness, I would guess that TNT are not providing Ferrari with much in the way of technical coaching. They probably don’t want to mess him up as they’ve done with a few others. Best TNT can do is to offer something out of their stale bag of strategies (stall, slap, live on the edge).
Against elites, Angelo’s greatest weapon will be scrambling. Even a bad shot starts the process. Unless Ferrari recognizes that or has a coach strong enough to stress it, Rocco’s methodically patient match will be the template for other elites to beat him. Praying on one knee for 6:30 (risking stalling point penance from the pastor, er, uh, referee) before starting any offense is a recipe to lose. Oh, and someone needs to tell him a stare-down isn’t wrestling technique.

ok, a Ferrari strategy question that will definitely show the casual in me ...
when he is on his right knee, the left extended leg just looks so ripe for a single leg shot to me ....
non-casuals, tell me what I am missing

Yeah, I was talking about after the meet was over. The TV coverage wasn't clear and it cut it short.

I think this match is the beginning of the end of Brands. 2 total TDs before HWY match. Minus Caliendo, no aggression, just grabbing hands and fingers trying to slow down the pace. Ferrari spending 3 periods on a knee rather than using his strength and quickness to setup shots.
“Beginning”?
I checked out HR this morning for the first time in months. The majority seem to feel it's time for Brands to go. However, there are a couple hardcore guys who are whistling past the graveyard. One wrote Iowa is falling behind because of ethics - of course implying ethical Iowa is falling victim to the unethical interlopers. TomBots I guess. But maybe TnT will stay and turn things around. 🤷‍♂️
Taking a job to start a new NCAA wrestling program at UCLA, USC, Oregon, or Washington would be a great way for TNT to slip out of Iowa City. Unfortunately NIL pressures have put a total cap on the origination of additional sports at P-4 colleges. If Iowa fans could become more rational, they could take acceptable satisfaction from being a top 5 program in wrestling. My guess is is that’s how Bethie sees it and they will remain “fixtures” in Iowa City for the foreseeable future.

so Tom says we have got the right guys, I have no idea what he is talking about?
Obviously, he was referring to the whole room: 1) himself, Terry, M*, Telford, and Dennis to coach them to close the gap; and, 2) the would be starters for presenting them with this coaching opportunity.

Almost stumbling? He nearly fell down a few of times! But I love how he kept trying to score.
Levi does this every match and has no problem with conditioning.

Seriously though he trips on the mat at least two times a match, he has got to be the best clumsy wrestler ever.

It’s genuinely sad that he’s convinced himself he needs to wrestle like that and coaching malpractice that Brands hasn’t told him otherwise.

I don't blame Ferrari or Brands for this. As long as it keeps working (and gets you a top ranking), why change? You use the tools at your disposal. I blame the refs and the NCAA that allow this to happen. Until they put a stop to it, wrestlers should shamelessly use the knee-high stall-o-rama technique as long as they keep winning with it.

With that said, did anyone else see this crazy news.

BREAKING: Ferrari S.p.A., the Italian super-car company, has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Angelo and AJ. They are seeking damages and a permanent injunction to prevent the brothers from using the Ferrari name in any public performance.

The company says the brothers’ wrestling style is so monotonous and utterly uninspiring that it is the antithesis of what the Ferrari brand represents, is tarnishing the company’s image, and is hurting sales. In a press release after filing the lawsuit, Ferrari’s CEO said (in a very Italian accent):

“What these guys do is an insult to our high-performance racing heritage. Their wrestling is like watching a race car driver drive in first gear dragging their driveshaft on the pavement and praying opponents crash so they can steal a win. It’s embarrassing. They are not a powerful cavallino rampante (prancing horse). They are more like a prancing meerkat! They refuse to engage and just go backwards, always backwards. You shouldn’t be able to win a race driving in reverse! These boys spend more time on the edge of the mat than a lot lizard in a truck stop parking lot on a Saturday night. The refs might as well just let them tunnel through the mat and hide in their burrow until the end of the match. Holy merda, this has to stop!”

What do you think is wrong with Keuter? If I’m looking at it from Iowa’s perspective that is the most head scratching match to me. I don’t think he tried to score once aside from the obligatory flailing around the last 10-15 seconds of the match. It was like he didn’t try to or want to win. The guy is a very good athlete. He had a big length/reach advantage. It sounds like he has been really counter reliant for his offense this year but… I guess I just thought he would be better at this point.
He had hip surgery in the office season, still recovering from it, that's what his mom says on the Hawkeye board and I have no reason to doubt it.

I thought I saw the wrestlers briefly touch (hands/ fingers) and then Ferrari headed for the exit.

You make a good point, but this highlights the difference between Cael and Brands. For Iowa, the only thing is winning; at PSU, it's getting better and maximizing potential.

Angelo is a strong, athletic kid, and I have little doubt he is wrestling far short of his potential. I don't know if Cael could get him to his feet, but I do know Gibbons has never said a PSU wrestler is frustrating to watch.

No reason to doubt this, but it does make you wonder about roster management. Why not import a HWT and get Kueter a medical shirt?

Or maybe they tried and couldn't get anyone to bite ...

For entertainment purposes alone, Iowa's backup HWT needs to get some matches. His real name is -- I am not making this up! -- Easton Fleshman. Coincidentally or otherwise, that's also @WillieTheBrain's adult movie stage name.
