Was watching the handshakes at the end, I didn't see Angelo shake hands but they cut it off early.

Anyone at the match notice? I'm probably wrong, just curious.

Nice win for Mirosola, but he could have easily been hit with another stall call in the last 30 seconds.

Had the Ref called stalling like that Caliendo would have been DQ'ed for stalling. Also, Mirasola's first stall call was complete bs as Keuter [sp?] walked off the mat - it isn't the top wrestler's responsibility to keep the bottom wrestler on the mat. Keuter clearly walked forward off the mat of his own volition trying to get separation from Mirasola - that was a bs call.

The Ref also called a number of bs cautions (and non-cautions - saying, that one is on me....). He kept telling the wrestlers to "slow it down" which is horsecrap instruction - the bottom wrestler is supposed to put his arm around bottom wrestler's waist first and Ref is supposed to blow whistle as soon as top wrestler's second hand touches bottom wrestler's elbow (and bottom wrestler is permitted to go as soon as he feels the hand touch - i.e., not a caution if the bottom wrestler goes as soon as top wrestler touches elbow and movement is simultaneous with Ref's whistle.). But pure bs to tell the wrestler's to slow their starts - tell them to make sure they're legal starts, but they shouldn't have to slow-down from a legal start - that's absurd instruction.

285- #13 Cole Mirasola vs. #5 Ben Kueter

Period 1:
Tying up & hand fighting. Kueter looks much taller than Cole. Cole reaches for an ankle, but can't get there. He reaches again, but same result. Cole pushes forward. Kueter circles back to center. Cole presses forward again. They circle on the edge. Kueter with some hard clubs. More tying up & hand fighting. Cole drops to a leg. Kueter locks around the waist. Cole tries to come up, but Kueter hands on. Cole looks for a neutral danger call, but it's a stalemate & restart. Tying up & hand fighting again, 22-sec left. More of the same to end the period. 0-0

Period 2:
Kueter takes down. Caution on Cole. Kueter works to his feet. Cole locks on his leg & takes him back down. Kueter pops back up & gets the escape, 1-0. Cole reaches for a leg, but can't get there. Tying up & hand fighting again. Cole reaches for a leg, but Kueter blocks him off. Cole reaches for an ankle, but can't get there. Kueter gets a stall call. Cole presses forward. Kueter circles back near center. Kueter drops to a leg. Cole counters, kicks free & works behind for the TD, 3-1. Kueter works to his feet, but Cole takes him out of bounds. Stall warning on Cole. Kueter is still down. Kueter pops up & gets the escape, 3-2, then time quickly expires. 3-2 Cole, +33-sec RT

Period 3:
Cole takes down. Cole gets to his feet & gets the escape, 4-2. Collar ties & hand fighting again. Kueter with a half shot. Back to collar tying & hand fighting. Kueter fakes a shot. More circling & tying up, 30-sec left. Kueter shoots, but can't get there. Kueter pushes forward. Cole circles around the edge. Kueter shoots, but can't finish. Cole gets another stall call, point Kueter, 4-3. Kueter presses forward, but time expires & Cole hangs on for the win!!!

Cole Mirasola DEC Ben Kueter 4-3

Final Team Score

LOL. I needed a good laugh.

You really do not know the rules in college, and also do not know referee technique, and what the ref was instructing the wrestlers.

Don't discard what Blaze did: That was the real Drake Ayala out there. The one who took Byrd into deep water and should have won the national championship last year, and Blaze beat him on a mat he never loses on. Blaze got out of that throw by and I have never seen anyone get out of that. Much bigger win than will be mentioned. That version of Ayala tonight would beat Forrest and probably anyone else.
Agree. Good post a observation. They will meet again in the BJC and Blaze better be ready. Ayala is very good and 133 is loaded. I don’t know if anyone can beat Lucas Byrd from Illinois. Will see at the BJC. Gonna be so fun watching Live.

Ha haha

should have been a shut out.
As I said Davis will make the adjustments in March and wrestle better in neutral and win the match on the mat, this tonight was a perfect storm for Bailey...he caught Davis early, had a cradle locked up for a minute which gave him a point that Davis needed to be 3-3, then ran for 2 minutes against the version of Davis that has 2 weeks of competition in him instead of 2 months. Disregard this result, it was Carver

I swear, I'm sitting here watching Minnesota vs Nebraska in the background and I hear " green you're warned for stalling" and almost added another stall to my sheet for Iowa... Muscle memory watching them I suppose.
Do you know when did both teams get dinged for stalling? We had stall calls but we were ahead.

VITAL thing for Blaze is that he meets Byrd at the BJC so he can get a feel for him: The one and only way Byrd can beat him is to big brother him the same way O'Conner beat Levi a few years ago. Marcus needs to get his feel so that he lays out a good match plan in Cleveland. They'll probably meet two times and I always said if Levi would have met O'Connor just one time before that final he would have beat him. For example if Marcus takes down and then can't get out inside a minute, then take neutral at National

I thought the ref was pretty good with the stall calls.

every time he called stalling (either a mandatory call like backing out, or walking the bottom guy out, etc.) or the discretionary calls (not enough action), I agreed with him. The mandatory calls are easy to understand once you understand the rules. The discretionary calls he made were the same ones I would have made, at pretty much the same time I would have made them.
