Nothing tags you as a hayseed more than saying “state” instead of “states” except for maybe saying Pop instead of Soda
I've been reading this thread and chuckling about some of the back and forth. Then I got to this post. It's pop. Everybody knows it's pop. A few decades ago, pop was more prevalent nationwide than soda. Unfortunately, pop territory has been shrinking. I blame marketing agencies. Soda sounds more refined than pop so that's what they go with. It makes the soda folks feel important even though they're still drinking the same unhealthy flavored sugar water as everyone else.

Pretty for sure, but definitely a woman who fits a bunch of wrestling fans as in she's little and short. 5'3 is too short. I'd look like I was kidnapping her 🤣 Plus, she's got the body of a 125lber with boobs. Gotta have some meat fellas.
This is my wife's profile. Wrestlers sister. I'd argue the latter part makes things interesting sometime.

It’s like Christmas every Friday with this team, only its kids giving us old guys the gifts! I don’t know what some were watching, but I saw PJ’s best match of the year. Who knew that being down semi-big (5-1), then scary late to a skilled, tough-as-iron opponent would unleash the beast we all know is there. It’s foolish to dismiss Catrabone as bonus fodder when he’s more likely AA. Majors and techs are nice, but gritty, come-from-behind (twice) bouts against quality foes prove far more.
Don’t start me on Dez the Dawg, Rocco’s offense, or Cole’s ever-improving, never retreating style. I think many of those ankle pick fakes will be successful once he starts committing. Even the tricky, ever lanky Mantanona’s were folded and boxed up neatly. All in all, a remarkable drubbing of a solid team.
And, damn, only six more days till another Christmas. ;)

Went to college in the 80’s. Lived Center-West in PA. Went to college in Center-East. I called it “pop.” Classmates were mostly from East PA. They all called it “soda.” When I would call it “pop,” the response was always “pop is your dad.”

From Ann Arbora few observations

-Get there early bad Friday night traffic
-Crowd was into it until murders row 3.0 or is it 4.0
-not one to complain about officials, but seemed like he was trying to keep it more even a little
-with only Levi leaving is it possible will have a deeper team next year

Cool graphic. Regional language differences have always been interesting to me. After moving out to Cali many years ago, I didn’t take long to convert to saying "soda". When in Rome...

I moved to north central PA when I was 10. It was pop up there and it took me a little while to figure out what they were referring to.

Looks like a pincer movement by the superior Soda forces eroding the will of the rebel Pop forces

With To pull out a Spykerism... He needs to hit the weights hard. Obviously not going to happen in season. But I look forward to a new/improved Cole next year.
Personally I believe he’d be better off spending less time and energy in tie ups and look for angles to take shots

In praise of Nate Desmond.

The dude started at 125 and is slated to redshirt this year. At 125, he knocks out Lightning Luke. Nagao goes down at 141 and his designated back-up, Nasedo, was not up to the task. Desmond goes in at 141 to fill the slot while Davis works his way into competition shape after being pulled from redshirt when Nagao re-injures his shoulder. Then Davis is burned and its once more into the breach for Desmond. He is basically the fourth option for Penn State at 141 as a true freshman and he just continues to contribute impressively. It is a tribute to his ability and to the amazing, unprecedented depth of this team.

I believe he has done several of our matches this year. He is a good one.

I hope he refs all 8 of our finals matches at NCAAs. 🙂
I thought the official was very good . I almost posted last week after the Nebraska match that officials better start calling the nasty head slaps as a point. He did.! I think the rules committee should change the rule of excessive hand fighting to mimick stall calls. You get warned once and then points just like stalling. Make the guys wrestle, it's not boxing.

no one with Beau's talent could wrestle like Beau except for Beau if he wrestled like Nolf he would have easily won 2 titles instead of his 1 td a match wrestling!

Don't understand the sarcasm. Desmond is good. He's been dominating since he was in 7th grade. His father wasn't that surprised that he beat Luke at Army. I assume that the only way they get everyone in lineup without someone transferring, is to use mid career redshirts. See Zain
I think Nate Desmond is related. to the ciasulli's , from Easton . as. soon as. he gets. a takedown. , he throws. legs in. , and. looks. for. a turn. . can't. wait. to see. him. next year. . wow. .!

Tom - if you get a chance, look at that last takedown in slow motion. They were very very close to off the mat. Not that it would have mattered much for the outcome, but I’m surprised Bormet didn’t throw the brick.
I haven't rewatched it, but on the mat means any body part within the cylinder in a 3D perspective. The Michigan kid's right hand (I think) was still above the cylinder. Of course, as I said I did not go look at it again. So memory, and yesterday I proved my memory isn't what it might have been - Cathedral Prep and Harborcreek confusion.

Was unable to catch the action live, was driving to Pittsburgh with the family and by the time we got into the hotel it was late. Watching some of it back I just gotta say I am confused at the stalling against Desmond as he was being held in that position by ragusin and was actively telling the ref he can't do anything if ragusin doesn't and then boom. He gets dinged. Found that odd... Regardless, Desmond is a hell of a lot of fun to watch.
Don't know the rules as well as I once did, but I assumed Ragusin is bottom man and on his feet. Desmond is responsible for at least attempting to bring him down to the mat. I thought the call was a no brainer.

“Mat wrestling is gay”

Signed: JV wrestling states
Truer words were never posted. If any of those Midwest pokes could come close to competing with the Eastern bloc (mainly PA, but the surrounding states are no slouches either) in the style that WE ACTUALLY WRESTLE HERE IN THE USA they’d change their tune quickly and Lobell, Radar, and the like would start waxing poetically about turks, bow and arrows, and , yes, even the fine art of the ankle ride.

Meanwhile, they love neutral wrestling while conveniently ignoring that the most egregious and voluminous stalling in folk style comes in neutral. Especially, after the 3 point TD was instituted.

I would argue the tie ups and head pulls are to drain energy, create small angles and provide a path to heel picks to singles.

I am looking forward to watching him next year. Another year of learning and still small but probably closer to 235.
