Nebraska (5 TDs) didn’t wrestle, they hand fought and backed up all night. Same as Iowa (2 TDs) and it will be the same with O$U. PSU was as aggressive as ever. They come to engage, wrestle and win. The other team comes out to hang on. LL, MB, SVN, PJD, MM, LH, RW, and JB can all easily be wrestling on Saturday night at nationals!
Cael mentioned this in his postmatch news conference that most teams are using this as a strategy against Penn State and they're seeing it more and more.

When one team's uniform is so clearly predominantly RED (or GREEN) and the other's have none of that color, then ankle bands are superfluous,

Should get rid of ankle bands all together and go with colored socks, when needed.

Then why was Ferrari wearing red anklets? He was the only wrestler that I noticed wearing them.

There was also a previous BJC match where there were no anklets worn in the first five matches, but they were worn by every wrestler after the break.

I don’t have FLO or B1G+, so I don’t watch every match, but I‘ve only seen the absence of bands at some BJC duals.

In regards to the official last night and he is not alone; the thing that irritates me the most is that they will hit someone with a stall call for taking one step backwards to avoid a takedown attempt but allow some guys (Taylor, the Ferraris, Locket, etc) to spend 90% of the match backing up and rarely get penalized or even warned for it. How they rationalize that reasoning is beyond me and difficult to watch.

This is the correct analogy. I didn't lose my mind when someone slapped back at Bo Nickal after one of his butt pats or after he'd reach down to remove them from the mat (after he had put them there). It wasn't mean-spirited on Hardy's part, but you can almost understand why Davis lost it in the heat of the moment. I think taking a team point away was likely the right call and I'm sure the coaches will address the issue with Davis, but I'm not convinced that he deserves any sort of formal punishment for it. He'll understand that he has to control his emotions (adrenaline dumps and getting decked when you were deep on a single leg and leading against a top opponent are different issues that he also needs to understand and consider). Admittedly, I've posted about it twice myself, but it's really much ado about nothing. It wasn't a pre-meditated douche move (like doing a split after your team got their asses handed to them and you squeaked by against the #9 ranked wrestler on a riding time point) and he'll learn from it.
A fine line exists within highly competitive endeavors and the combatants. Sometimes the smallest of actions can cause an unfortunate and regrettable reaction.

IDK why. Possibilities include Ferrari is superstitious.

Recent BJC duals: Rutgers - Red. Ohio State Red.

Anyways the rule book clearly makes them optional but recommended for duals for the purpose of referee scoring. The referees don't need them when the uniforms are colored as I described.

Art. 5. Ankle Bands. In all tournaments, the host game management shall provide
red and green ankle bands approximately 3 inches wide for identification of the
wrestlers. It is also recommended that these ankle bands be used in dual meet.

For those that didnt think taylor was stalling, you must’ve thought the same about lamar in 2nd. Taylor took 2 committed shorts in regulation

Was anyone else scratching their head when Lilledahl had 5 takedowns plus some nearfall points and the ref kept yelling at him to "improve!". That was bizarre lol
he is talking to both wrestlers, I believe, because of the escape situation like we saw at Md with SVN. I like it...

he - Taylor - did a good job retreating but not too much. And, ensuring he pushed back when the tie was advantageous to him.

He took two shots because he couldn’t get through PJ’s defense either. At this level, you can’t just shoot willy nilly if you don’t have it set up. Both guys were trying to set it up but couldn’t. He didn’t spend the match backing up or on the edge.

I couldn't believe the traffic around the stadium last evening around 5. I know there was a hockey game and volleyball but it seemed pretty crazy. We needed to get to East Halls to drop off daughters BF before dinner. The Field had an hour wait at that time. Ottos got us in in 20 minutes and we were out of there in an hour. Thankfully none of the traffic was there on our way to park.

Loved the atmosphere. The seats I got were amazing. 4 rows off the mat. Right by the Nebby bench.

Amazingly, not too many calls down at Manning. A few, but nothing terrible. Oddly, i found he is actually easier to ignore in person than on TV.

The ref sucked ***. Hopefully that clown doesn't make a return trip to Happy Valley for BIGs.

Out of all the guys, I thought Rocco looked the best. I really expected a close grinding match. Allred isn't a world beater, but he isn't a pushover either.

Couple guys looked uncharacteristically gassed/not their usual selves. But im guessing its all part of Caels plan.

We say it every year, myself included, guys didn't look very good in that dual, and bam next thing ya know, we're winning another Natty!! 🤷‍♂️

Yep. Pretty much clockwork these days. Although i seem to remember the entire team looking off for a meet or 2 in the past. But now it seems only part of the team at a time.
This is the best team PSU has ever had. This is probably the peak of this dynasty. It’s going to be difficult for the whole team to look off at once.

FYI Ref was JR Blose from Oklahoma. He reffed our Indiana dual

I agree with this. Taylor wasn’t stalling, he just had great head-hands defense and PJ couldn’t get to the ties he wanted to set up his shots. Being good defensively isn’t stalling. Stalling is backing up or wrestling from a knee for half the match. Both guys wrestled a great defensive match. Sometimes a 10-7 football game is boring, sometimes it is a defensive masterpiece. Same concept applies here.
Maybe listen to Cael after the match on stalling.

That ref was really looking forward to hearing about his expert coaching while also being able to ref. Truely a multitalented individual

You can show boat but should probably keep your hands off the guy. Which is why Hardy apologized and I bet Davis will during handshakes.
All this while we laugh about smacking asses. Hardy wasn't being a prick, it was a good match tap. Although something must have been said before the dual, it wasn't just breaden with attitude they all had it. I know the bad blood but this seems deeper and more recent.

I look at how matches affect seeds, for example:

If Luke beats Bouzakis then most likely it's Bouzakis v Peterson at B1G semis.

If Duke beats Cannon it's possible that we get Cannon v Taylor in the B1G semis because Cannon hammered Taylor at the National duals, but I'm not counting on that one.

At 184 I expect the semis to be McEnelly v Ferrari. McEnelly has been squeaking out wins in OT.

PJ Duke beating both Cannon and Taylor before nationals would do wonders for his seed.

Not picking on you here, rather the ref-blaming throughout.

The ref stunk and so what? Folks are fooling themselves badly if they think there will be no bad calls or bad refs at any other duals, at B10s, or at NCAAs. And our guys all have world-level aspirations -- foreign refs are far worse yet.

Our guys need the mentality of beating both the opponent and the ref. (And some have it already.) Don't want to get screwed by the ref? Win big enough to take it out of his hands.

Manning has spent his off seasons talking smack and accusing Penn state of cheating for years ,maybe everyone is just tired of that nonsense

once the PJ match reached the third period, I said to my wife there's no way this spineless ref is calling a stall on antrel no matter how much he stalls. Didn't want to determine the outcome. Then for Mitch's match, I said the ref is going to call several to make up for it!
