Default is selection made usually automatically or without active consideration due to lack of a viable alternative <remained the club's president by default> Are you saying there aren't other options? I think you are mistaken. I think it will be Timmons, but not by default, he will win the job!TIMMONS BY DEFAULT OR WIDE OPEN??? Thoughts
and give me the "fan" who doesn't boo their own player "ever so hard in their life"!Anyone else remember last season when he called a fair catch at the one yard line last season against Florida I believe? Maybe Mizzou. Never booed a player on my own team so hard in my entire life. Just inexcusable. But not as inexcusable as the coaches continuing to put him back there after he called the fair catch at the 1. That play pretty much summed up Timmons career at UK and especially his punt returning ability. Give me the return man who doesn't call fair catches at the 1 yard line.
Walker catches it, but no return threat. Love to see King be able to catch since the rest is gold.
At least your constant negativity is stated in an articulate way though not always cohesively sensible. If it's Timmons then I concede the season right now and all hope is lost. I felt as if they put him at returner last season just so he could have a role on the team since he was buried on the depth chart. One of the many inexcusable special teams decisions last season. I've never felt more squeamish about an upcoming football play in my entire life the way I do when I see Timmons standing waiting for a return. Maybe he's a decent WR this year who knows. But he's always been a terrible returner in college.
All opinions are welcome on this board.Sanantonio cat...you may not agree with his delivery but what did he say that wasnt true??? I say all valid points

The boo's weren't far and few between and drinking definitely intensifies those emotions. It was an unacceptable play. It was the only time in my entire life I've felt the need to boo our own. I mean anyone that's so sensitive that they see a major problem with someone booing its own player then that's just the sissified world we live in I guess. I spend tons of money on the university, season tickets, parking passes. I don't see any wrong in it. No one was even offended by my booing. I'm actually just a realistic fan. That's it. I wonder how many bengals fans booed burrfict. Or how many fans booed Buckner. Or what about the fans who booed ARod? It's a part of the game. Calling a fair catch on the one yard line is the poorest most boneheaded play I've just about ever seen. If that didn't deserve a boo then I don't know what does.Nice to see you come right out and admit that you boo your own players, but it wasn't really necessary, I already knew that you were the type from all your posts.
How many punt return yards do you have against major competition?
Ill refer you to my previous world. I understand what's wrong and what's not in life for the most part, if you decide to be that sensitive. That's your choice. All I know is I've been pouring money into the university since the Morris days. Which includes the joker years. Which means I've stuck it out thru a lot. I have the right. What about the fans who booed joker? Doesn't make them a bad fan. If a player can't endure some boo's for making the most boneheaded of plays. Then they need to get out of competitive sports. Especially if they're getting paid (education costs a lot these days).and give me the "fan" who doesn't boo their own player "ever so hard in their life"!
Did you see last season? I swear we were lucky if we kept the ball and didn't lose 10 yards from penalties. We very well may have had a negative net return average on punts after penalties last season. I was very thankful that we had Charles Walker with the ability to consistently catch a punt last season. In fact I was thrilled we had such as asset after what we had been dealing with.Sad that a fan base of an SEC football team is happy that we have "a" player on the team that can at least "catch" a punt.
What about returning it for at least a yard or two?

Umm. Yea Walker is never going to go the distance. But he's also never going to get a few yards. He calls a fair catch on every punt (not that it's a bad thing). That was his job. Just catch the punt and don't give the ball away. But he'll never get yards. We used to have positions filled by default, that doesn't really happen that much any more, we have several options. Walker is the surehanded return man that won't go the distance often but won't lose a lot of yards, Timmons the one that has the speed and elusiveness to break one, hard to beat him if he uses his head and catches it, some new speedsters that may usurp him, King looks to have all the tools.
He was hurt most of the year???? In the beginning of the season too? Please. How many games he miss? Gotta love how sissified many are these days. I'll boo my future 8 year old son if he calls a fair catch on the one. Not negative, realistic. As far as basketball goes. I'm not negative AT ALL. Why? Because we're great. When you're good/great why be negative? But in football we usually suck. So yes until we do something, until stoops proves he's even a halfway competent head coach (he hasn't proven that he's a competent head coach), then I'm going to be negative. As far as I'm concerned he hasn't earned any praise. The in game coaching to this point has been PATHETIC. The game preparation (ie, we game planned for the other QB vs UL). If Stoops gives me a reason to believe in him I'll be the first to admit I was wrong about him. I want to admit I'm wrong about him. But damn yall the guy just looks clueless. He seems to always have that 'deer lost in the headlights' look on the sidelines.Sorry but booing your own team of college players is low class. Doesn't surprise me that you boo players with how negative you are about everything around the program.
Timmons was hurt most of the year but don't let that keep you from making an arse out of yourself.
-not upset...just pointing out dirt-bag behavior.
-PARTICATATION TROPHIES!!!1!!!1. The war cry of the unacomplished....often roared by turds who have only competed for the last slice at the pizza buffet.
-willing to bet that most of the "i paid my money i can boo whoever i want!" posters in this thread are at least 40 lbs overweight and have never played sports past being the fat kid on the bench in high school in podunck county.
Allaboutheuk,
-apologies for offending the fat...im sure it is a glandular issue. Mea culpa.
-less of a need to belittle...more of a compulsion to rail against boorish behavior. Fire with fire if you wish.
-some of your assumptions are close...some are way off. Appreciate the effort.
Derek Abney...best ever at UKPut Cobb back there!
I agree, hate to see it hit the ground. Tentative guys also tend to muff more. I think Timmons has it until his first muff then Walker takes over. One of the most important parts of the game that, unless there is a muff, go unnoticed by many fans. That is to say most fans take catching a punt as a "given". However, letting it hit the ground usually gives up field position and a muff usually gives up points.
It takes somebody who is not only sure handed but very confident in his ability to catch it. Without the confidence factor you are apt to let some bounce that should have been caught.
Peace
