Memphis cornerback texted UTSA QB their entire defensive playbook and allegedly bet against Memphis.

NIL and the transfer portal are highly damaging to college sports. Easy sports gambling is going to be what kills it.
Apparently he was kicked off the team by this point of the season, surprised this doesn't happen more.

With program loyalty basically zero now, this plus gambling against their own team likely happens way more than most want to admit or even think about.

Maybe not the betting, although I'd bet it has, but you better believe a guy transferring to a new school is bringing a copy of his old playbook with him.

Yet another reason the portal is horrible for the integrity of the game.

I’m not following how its any easier to do this now than it was when there was no NIL / portal.

I mean, a dude wants to send his team’s whole playbook to the opponent in order to generate a gambling windfall, why does it matter if he has to sit out a year for transferring or whether his NIL is legit or not? I mean these are AAC teams. Dude likely wasn’t pulling in 6 figures in booster or NIL money. Just a dumb, selfish decision that could have been made with or without the latest reforms.

Serious question but how does NIL cause one to or not to gamble on college football?
