Just confused where you said you agreed Salem was number 1, then said Salem wasn't as good as in previous years.

Because they are the 3 time defending state champs. Until someone knocks them off then they will be #1 in the weekly polls, rightfully so..As of today, they are undefeated. Rankings mean absolutely nothing and have no implication of what's going to happen in October/November/December.
