I know it was Troy, and the bigger story may be the defensive performance..but as with anything QB related at a school (MSU) that has been a QB graveyard for most of its pitiful history...DAK is as good a playmaker as I've seen behind center for the Maroon and White (or maron and whit) And what is the most gratifying to me is seeing how excited he is to be the guy leading this offense. He is like a kid at Christmas, and seems to spark these young players to perform better as well. I know he didn't play a perfect game. A few of his throws over the middle had a low trajectory, but what that tells me is that he is cautious of the possible INTs that can pop up when a ball is thrown high down the middle of the field. He has been coached well. Very happy for him. I kept wondering if his mom was there last night. She is battling illness and has got to be a proud mama right now. Dak had late opportunities during the recruiting process to stay closer to home, but stuck with his commitment to us.

I know Mullen has put it out there that Tyler will start in 2 weeks. I just don't believe you go away from Dak, who currently has the hot hand, and is feeling as confident as any QB has this early in his game action as a starter. Our O-Line has gotten better, but I'm not confident they can pass protect for the time required by Tyler, him being a pocket passer that likes to go thru ALL his reads on many of his pass plays. It just doesn't translate well with what we've got going right now offensively. Tyler is still one of the finest young men to rep this univ. Been a fan of his since he led his h.s. team in victory over South Panola, putting an end to their unbelievable winning streak. Regardless, he's still a leader on this team. If there is not an on-field role for him going forward, he can still make a NFL team via tryout. His arm is a plus, and his game is valuable. He will handle it well and still has the utmost respect from his teammates.

Then again, maybe Tyler comes back and looks like Joe Montana the rest of the year, leading us to another bowl game. Who am I to rub my crystal ball and proclaim that what I believe is gospel. I'd be pleasantly surprised. I just don't want another late-season collapse like last year. I think we all can agree on that.

History repeats itself yet again. We are Emm Stake.

The whole team responds to Dak. Our OL plays better, but might just be Dak's skill set masks their weaknesses a bit.

What I don't want is for Tyler to start but Mullen to bench him for Dak if we get behind early. Bringing in Dak when we have to pass to catch up will 1) destroy what is left of Tyler's confidence 2) Bring in Dak when his skillset will be compromised and wreck his confidence, too. Dan gets to see these guys everyday in practice. He needs to make up his mind, but stick with it.

Has it really not dawned on any of you that it might just be the competition? Russell ripped up the Troy-type teams last year too. Again, I think we need to wait until LSU to annoint him the savior.

^^ This. Let Prescott start, and we either swim or sink. If we swim, well, great. Sucks for Russell, but it is what it is. If we sink, bring Russell back in to hopefully save us.

It's really quite easy. I hope Mullen sees it the same way. If he doesn't, I hope he's got a good reason.

What if Tyler starts and per usual we move the ball two things can happen we don't stall in the red zone and we score seven (7) not three (3). Leave Tyler in as long as he is getting protection and isn't at risk. If we stall in the red zone and do not score or settle for three (3), do we swap QB's for Dak? If LSU stuffs the run game will our receivers come through and catch the ball? I have seen more catchable balls dropped than I care to think about. If the receivers step up and begin to catch the ball, then do you want Dak delivering the throws or Tyler?
No matter who the QB is they will have to have help. The OL will have to protect and open some holes and the receivers will have to get open and catch what comes their way.

This would be an easy call for The Old Ball Coach Steve Spurrier - go with your hot hand, in this case Dak. If he falters try someone else.
