It's awful if the coaches think a change @ QB means
- "sign of giving up" ... To me that's actually the opposite. A change to me, makes me think they're still fighting.
- "sign that they don't know what they are doing" ... This is a team sport. They need to put their egos aside. Lots of coaches name other guys at other positions starters, and during the course of the year, lose the job and are replaced. Starting spots should be battled for every day. Nothing should be guaranteed. QB should not be any different. The face of the team is not the QB. The face of the team is the team.
And Lee not being replaced by POB does not mean POB's can not play. POB has had very little experience playing QB in organized football. He was a baseball player that turned to football later in his life. He's still very much learning how to be a QB. He's also still a RSFR that has time to grow.
The problem, again, was roster management and recruiting by this staff.
Didn't recruit a QB in 2015. I get the argument that they didn't have a full year to recruit one in 2015. That's fine. But then only signed 1 QB in 2016. A kid that needed a lot of work to become a real QB because he just didn't have the experience. POB was never going to be a starter his first few years. He just didn't come in with that kind of football knowledge and so the staff should have signed 2 QB's in 2016 or not run off AJ Bush, who is already 2nd string @ VA Tech.
The only real options are
1. Pull Gebbia RS. However, big picture wise, is really not an option. Kid needs to red shirt and get bigger. That's the best thing for our program in years to come and the best thing for the kid as well.
2. Continue to eat sh*t and run the same offense with Lee they are currently doing. Then next year Danny and Cav will be unemployed. And maybe Mike too
3. Dummy down the dam pro-style offense, lean on the run more, and try to throw quicker outs to avoid pressure.
IMO #3 is the only real option for this year.
