Gavin had an 80 qbr (high rating) vs VT. JJ McCarthy of Michigan had a qbr of 10 vs Bowling Green. Despite the dismal total yds, yds per attempt and to a lesser extent ‘eye test’, GW is being rewarded in terms of metrics for being a good game manager. Further, the stats imply that he is a strong contributor to the win. Conversely, per the stats, UM won vs BG despite the play of the qb rather than as a result of his good play. My takeaway is that Gavin’s decision making has improved dramatically. It is a good omen. Completions, yds, style of play will only continue to improve as well.

Before the season started 10% of the fans thought Gavin Wimsatt would be able to be a decent QB, after three games 90% think he can be a decent QB. Maybe with a little more experience, he might be a good QB.

Wimsatt is exceeding expectations by a wide margin IMO. I had expected improved decision-making and accuracy in passing, and he's about on par from what I expected. However, Wimsatt is stellar on the run and run-option.

The offensive line is doing a good job with the run. In the past, third and short, we could guarantee you we wouldn’t make first down. That’s a difference from the past. Is the offensive line giving GW Enough time to pass the ball or Wimsatt or WR the reason we didn’t pass more?

Per QBR, he was a top qb yesterday. Per qbr he is ranked 4th after 3 weeks amongst big ten qb’s. Per qbr he is ranked 28th overall after 3 weeks.
He was a great running QB not a great passing QB.
And per the stats JJ McCarthy was neither a good running or passing qb yesterday against an average MAC program. Overall, per the stats GW is a top 30 QB in the country.

Gavin will certainly have his “ oops “ games and plays but Gavin can be a very good QB… it all hinges upon the continued improvements of our O line. Where Mike Teel struggled in those first couple of years Gavin seems to do the same but is athletically more gifted. Michigan will attempt to make him pass so it is time to use some of the offensive plays which are there but not yet featured. Losing big is a real possibility but playing well all around can certainly lead to even a better outcome in games going forward.

They had 319 yards total Rutgers had 302… it doesn’t make a great deal of difference how you get your yardage as long as at the end you have more points on the board. Would I prefer more passing yardage mixed in yes but if we ran for 256 yards against Michigan what nut job is going to complain… well maybe a Rutgers fan that’s almost a given. I may be an old boomer in contrast to some but if you still see no similarities in how the program appears to be developing in Schiano part 2 well don’t know what to tell you. Games are determined by odds bettors usually months ahead. I just want the players to fight, don’t quit and look to surprise. Oh and stay healthy . We have a chance to win 6 this year and maybe several more.
