Yeah ... that news broke a bit ago ... is the CJ just now getting around to reporting it? Figures.

Clearly he saw the writing on the wall. Looks like our QB next year will be Kyle Bolin, Will Gardner, or Tyler Ferguson, Penn St transfer. OR ... maybe true freshman Lamar Jackson, if he sticks to his verbal.

I bet he won't be the last one. Too many QB's. I am expecting two or three to transfer by the end of the Spring semester.

I thought it was strange he even decided to come to Louisville. You don't leave one program because of playing time to go to another situation where they have a bunch of options. It was a strange decision for the beginning.

Good luck to Tyler Bruggman.
I'd be surprised if Jackson signs with us. Florida wants him bad and supposedly told him he'll play next year. Shannon will be on him until signing day.

We (all of CFB) are definitely spoiling our 17/18 year old athlete-recruits by letting them expect to play in their true freshman year. They have no mass and they are not fully coordinated. Age 20 (or 21) is the perfect age to play as a starter. Bulk, mass, muscles are necessary.

i know it's FL but he could probably play here day 1 as well.

let's face it. UL has no QB right now.

I agree sword, all 3 QB who played this season had their moments. Yet I don't think either 3 showed that they will take the job next season. I think it will be open competition and I think Jackson has good a chance as any to start.

This. Anyone watching our games knows they can come in and compete for the QB job. And playing for Petrino has to be an incentive.

There are several positions I don't concern myself about under Petrino in the long run: QB is one of them along with running backs and wideouts...

Very true Sword but let me rephrase that, Florida supposedly told him he WILL play next year with no competition. Again, supposedly.

Just curious, but where are all the people who shouted from the rooftop that Reggie was the future, and would make us forget former greats? They seem to have disappeared. (FTR- I believe RB's future as a QB was screwed by THS who refused to play him until his Sr yr)

I believe we do have a QB who can run CBP's offense just fine. Maybe two of them if WG returns, but I look for him to "retire".

We need more.

Florida has arguably more talent at the QB position than we do --- and dual threat types too, which is very similar to Jackson.

But all that doesn't really matter .... because Lamar Jackson won't be worried about competition. Kids with that kind of talent don't worry about that at all. He's that good.

If Randy Shannon and Jim McElwain can sway him, that says something. Lamar Thomas has VERY tight connections to him (and his high school coach), which is why he committed to us in the first place.

We'll see. It is recruiting after all. Anything can happen.

Florida has Treon Harris, who is a freshman this year, rated 6.0 by rivals in the 2014 class. If McElwain is promising Jackson the starting job or even extensive playing time next year at Florida, he is lying.

Disagree. Nelson graduates. Poor Will probably will not make it back - if he does he is Superman. RB has a lot of trouble reading defenses and checking down for open receivers. Kyle - he has been hurt a couple of times as well (so you have to worry about durability). Ferguson is the wild card.

Yes they do but it's looking like they're not happy with Harris. Howie commented on it somewhere. Maybe someone can get his attention and he can clarify it. Florida wants Jackson bad, and they are promising him things.

If you were Petrino would you be putting in a lot of time working with Will again? He blew his knee out without getting hit ! Love the kid and he will always be a Cardinal, but is he worth the investment ? Whatever Bobby decides I'm good with.

The bottom line is these kids aren't going to come to Louisville to sit. They have no intention in sitting mentally they think they are better than the other QB's. I don't think coaches at Florida tell kids they are going to play. They are told they can compete for the spot or the QB position is wide open. New staff new opportunities. He will get his shot at Louisville and Florida. While we have our opinions the bottom line is the kid thinks he can win the job at either place. It really boils down to where he wants to play and my guess in he wants to stay in Florida. Pretty unique situation new coaching staff with a bunch of spots available. My guess is the Williams and Jones kid end up at Florida as well.

It doesn't hurt Louisville if Jackson goes to Florida. It will only help in recruiting Pass. They have enough QB's on the roster have a good year. I would be much happier to see them land a big time OL or CB in this class.

Louisville has always had to do it a different way. They will continue to do it a different way. We will see how the class plays out but I doubt it ends up being ranked in the top 30. It is amazing how successful Louisville has been and still can't get the elite players to come here. How many NFL players (elite) have come through the program. I think the 2016 class will be the class that shows if Louisville will be able to recruit with the big boys.
