This came up in coach34's thread --- that apparently there are more 3-star recruits today than in the past. And I tend to agree if you look at rivals rankings (although I haven't done the research). But if you look at scout, that's notreally true over the last 6 years. Starting in 2006, Mississippi has averaged just under 27 recruits ranked 3 stars or better. This year has 29. Obviously there was a major change after 2005 but scout has been consistent since then.

And note how many 2-stars they ranked in 2004. Obviously they went a little overboard & missed a few guys.

2011 0-5* 8-4* 21-3* 37-2*
2010 0-5* 8-4* 15-3* 32-2*
2009 1-5* 5-4* 27-3* 24-2*
2008 1-5* 5-4* 22-3* 25-2*
2007 0-5* 7-4* 15-3* 32-2*
2006 0-5* 6-4* 20-3* 18-2*
2005 2-5* 3-4* 9-3* 28-2*
2004 0-5* 1-4* 11-3* 74-2* -- notable NFL 2 stars: Brandon Jackson, Jamarca Sanford, Peria Jerry
2003 0-5* 5-4* 14-3* 46-2*
2002 1-5* 8-4* 10-3* 5-2*</p>

1. Who else has offered and are those offers legitimate.

2. Are you signing the guys you targeted from early in the process or are you filling your class with new names that just popped upin the last 2 weeks.

3. Combine star ratings from the different sites, but also take a look at their videos and talk to people who have seen them play

And I dont think we have cast a large enough geographic net to avoid 2. this year. Just my opinion.

There are most 3 stars on Rivals today. There are probably 5 guys I can think of that would almost unquestionable be 2 star guys in the past, that are 3 star guys this year.

I think the "do you recruit the same guys all year long" is a good measuring stick. I think interest from other schools is one as well, especially where they're visiting.

what they do on the fieldif they make it to school. That is the ONLY thing that matters. Stars are a beauty contest.

That got their brains beat in by having no plan B. When key guys started bolting, we were left with nothing. Hell, we're having to scramble to find plan D people now.

At the beginning of December?

Our coaches probably thought he was about as solid as they come and should focus their attention elsewhere other than back-up plans for him.

if my 6 and 7 figure salary was contingent upon my *** being prepared for the possibility that some 18 year old foolish manchild might change their mind or have it changed for them. I suspect I would have a plan B just in case.

It's not like we've had a top notch recruit bought out from under us before.

Mullen may lose his 6 or 7 figure salary over CJ not coming.
I would love to have a plan B too, but these coaches only have so much time with a certain number of recruits. Not saying this is the case, but hopefully they were spending their time working on other recruits or other back-up plans. Sure you don't want to be caught by surprise, but you start with back-up plans for commits that appear to be wavering and progress from there (like, a back-up plan for Brassell).
