Que Tucker has been named interim Commish for the NCHSAA. Oh lord. There goes football season. And get ready for some serious lectures this summer. If she is named the permanent director this could spell the end of HS football in NC.

She tells people what the rule is in the book that the Board of Directors has voted on. Period. I think she could be an asset to the football coaches. Do not expect her to be the long term director. I think being very thorough and not rushed while working on a good replacement is the smart move. The hiring of Davis Whitfield was a very thorough process and from a business standpoint a great hire.

She's been known to tel different people different things. I don't know of a person in a similar leadership position who garners less respect than she does. I have never heard a coach say a good thing about her.

That's probably because she has had to call that coach(es) on the carpet for behavior issues. I think that has been her role in many instances. Nobody likes the bearer of bad news, particularly when the probably deserve it.

What?

You mean people who have been given news they don't want to hear have a bad attitude towards the person who told them?

Surely this cannot be the case.

She is like the state trooper giving out a ticket because you were speeding excessively.

From all the above posts one might surmise she wears the patch of the Army's Second Armored Division....Hell On Wheels.

Seeing the ruling for state wrestling this past week on a weigh in circumstance proves to me she is a straight up shooter who goes by the rule and not emotions. Although it was not popular she made the correct call and did not waiver.

Can you give us the scenario and explain what happened? Thanks.

At regionals wrestler from South Caldwell failed weigh in, he asked a meet official and was granted permission to leave the weigh in area to go to the restroom. He returned from the restroom and was disqualified even though he was granted permission to excuse himself.

As I understand it, the rule book prohibits the wrestler from leaving the weigh in area so the meet official screwed up by giving permission.

Que was finally reached for an appeal after the wrestler had to forfeit his first round match and she agreed that there was a mistake made by the meet official. However, she would not allow the wrestler to proceed into the consolation rounds with a chance to wrestle back through the brackets and possibly place and earn a chance to go to the state championship.

Sorry for the late response, the Ipad went dead before finishing. WolfBanker is correct in the sequence but I read he was allowed to step on the scales again after returning from the restroom and made weight.

The Nation Federation does not allow anyone to leave the weighin area once the weighins begin. It was put in place so kids who were ounces away from making weight would not run, cut hair, purge, or anything else to attempt to make weight. I have seen the kid wrestle for four years and he was seeded #1 as a senior. Tough to go out in such a fashion as a one of the three top ranked wrestlers in the state. He is very talented.

Que Tucker is not afraid to enforce the rules. After seeing how well the NCHSAA worked to pull off the wrestling championships in Greensboro this weekend after weather issues I have a greater respect for the work they do. Although not perfect they made it all happen for the kids in two days which usually is a full three day event. I saw there was a match on the floor that ended at 1:05am in the morning Friday and the kids had to be back in for weighins early the next day.

She has told me twice that a scenario was okay, then it changed to not okay the next day. When asked for an explanation, she got defensive and eventually I got a "click". She is a fine person, but not very patient when it comes to football concerns. In the day, Dick Knox was not the most liked person in the room at times too....but, he would listen and make a decision. I never had any reversals the next day. I wish her and the association the best...but, the state is better served with a football person in charge since we all know who pays the endowment fund.
