Been to Westminster Abbey about 15 years ago and during the tour, they mentioned (IIRC) that the King is not coronated until a year and a day after the death of the previous King/Queen. Does anyone know if that is how they still do things? They used to make the oldest son automatically the King, but now the oldest child becomes the King or Queen, so who knows.

By the way the Abbey is probably the coolest structure I have ever been in, has the old oaken chair that every King has been coronated on since like 1300, and a hell of a lot of other great things to see. The front stoop is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and not even the King is allowed to step on that stone.
Well this whole situation is total bs for DW & me. We're leaving here Monday to stay two nights about two blocks from Buckingham Place. Plans included visiting Westminster Abbey for a second time amongst several things. Assuming that ain't happening. Bet most other crap will be closed too. Seems like a lot of pints will be in order.

Royals can't stop dying when we're around. We were in northern England when Di died & drove past Balmoral Castle between then and funeral. Ten was in Manchester airport leaving during her funeral. DITH.

Not sure why americans care that much but do your thing.
Indeed. Revolutionary War and War of 1812. We fought 'em twice so that we might distance ourselves from the Crown. Do our own thing after 85K-140K dead in both conflicts. Fast forward to the 20th century and beyond, and we remain mesmerized by the old country.

All critical statements aside, Britain is still cool as hell. I'm so looking forward to traveling back there again. Shetlands.... Orkneys.... Channel Isles.... Penzance.... Cornwall... Ah. Can hardly wait.

It’s just weird because if the founding fathers were like wait what? You’re enamored with the people that we fought tooth and nail to leave is the f**k alone? Uhhhh okay I guess…

And at first they wanted to reconcile. It was only when it wasn’t possible we went to war.

Regardless, I told you my reason. My fraternal grandmother was an English citizen before she immigrated to the US with my grandfather. I’m a quarter English. And an 1/8 Scottish. Needless to say I’ve always had some connection with the history of the Queen and what is essentially my grandmother’s homeland.

Totally understand that and not dogging you by any means. I’m saying these people that know nothing about their history, much was our country’s, celebrate them like they were always the best and deserve adoration.

Im English and Irish as well and have no problem with the English, they’re great these days but we have zero to do with the royal family these days. They’re just celebrities living off others.

You must have the least British blood of any native white Christian Countian, assuming that is what you are, that isn't Mennonite or Amish then.

My DNA is 98 Percent British and 2 percent Swedish and Dutch, which is mostly vikings in England.

Kentucky is the most British ancestral state in the US followed by Utah and Maine.
