What is it about him that everyone likes so much, and how does everyone know that he'd be good? Honest question, no sarcasm intended.</p>

Keenum is a smart guy, has loads of connections, and is well respected. Considering the criticisms of past Presidents and Interims, he must be a decent public speaker. I've not heard him speak before, so I'm no witness.
People generally think he'll be good because:
1. MSU alum
2. Was previously a MSU prof
3. Excellent political connections - he was one of Cochran's capos (gee, I'm making Thad seem like a Mafia don), and is an undersecretary for agriculture.
4. Not an extreme insider who's bound by college bureaucracy.
5. Youngish, so could be a president for more than four years.
6. Understands agriculture, which traditionally has been the engine that powers MSU.

he's not dynamite by any means but he was also not Charles Lee by any means. I would compare him as a speaker to Foglesong. But he was also speaking about the Farm Bill so its not like it was a great topic. I love everything else about him and everything I've heard about him. when he gets criticized, some people act like we've had some star studded line up of presidents since Z retired and start nitpicking.
