What would have been your thought and your action (if you took any) if State took in Masoli?

With our situation, I would have welcomed him, especially now that I know he is not a "thug".

I do think Mullen is a short timer. I love that we have a coach others may want. I think it would have made a differnce in probably 2 wins this year(by the way, I have us going 7-5). I already bought season tickets, for the first time, but also just moved back to the area last year.

as a fan and supporter that we are willing to take that type of transfer player no matter how good he is.

would have taken no action

I am glad we didn't take him. Not only do I hope Mullen is not that desperate but I think he is going to cause a split in what ever team he goes to. I think there are going to be a bunch of pissed off players on that team. I would like to see someone interview a few of the playersfor <Rule 18> and see what their take is.

thinking we would have a Heisman candidate for a QB.

Let me add, I am perfectly fine with Relf but you can't have too many good QB's.

Do you honestly think he can come in this late to a new system and still be a Heisman candidate?
That would be nice, but I don't think he can do it.

And watched the Masoli highlights the last few days, and he would have been tremendous in a Mullen offense. Just a perfect fit.

He is faster than Relf, just a little smaller, and looks to be a decent passer. Oregon's offense is a little flashier than MSU's offense, but they are very similar.

Im just glad he isn't going to MSU. Our offense isn't tailored to his strengths, but Im assuming Nutt will implement more Read Option plays out of the shotgun. At least he better.

Only for the reason of team chemistry... Relf has worked his *** off and seems like the team believes in him and if you bring a guy that's only going to be here 1 year like Masoli, then I think it could disrupt the team chemistry and back fire on Mullen. Relf would go back tosmoking dope and feeling sorry for himself. Plus, Relf has really grown on me and I think he's going to have a break out season.

Masoliwill only come if he will start. That means you benchRelf and destroy his spirit. All the guys thathave worked their asses off are basically told "if you are good enough I don't care if you are a thug or just got here."Even if that is the truth, it destroys the motivation of the rest of theteam. I just don't think its good football. Not this late, not this guy.

State doesn't need him. They do. Huge black eye for them nationally. Shows how desperate they are without Ogeron.

I like being a faceless person (except to John Cohen) behind a computer screen. I'm not one to meddle because even though I am a big fan, I do not know the entire situation, and odds are if I did, I would probably make the same decision as the coaching staff.

But that said, I did not want him even when we were rumored to possibly get him. I don't think that he would have made much of a difference for us- not that he won't for Ole Miss. My reasoning behind that is because of the timing of when he would get to MSU vs the other QB's that we have. I do know that Oregon runs the same offense, or one very similar to ours. I get that. But there are going to be some adjustments- new terminology, getting used to new players, and a league that is much more defense oriented. We have Chris Relf, who also fits our offense very well, and while he is no Heisman contender, he does know our terminology, and he also has a rapport with our players. It makes no sense to me to use a QB that is maybe more talented, but has to have 3-4 games to get used to everything when we have someone that can be effective in Chris Relf. Especially when we have people like Auburn, LSU, and Georgia three out of our first four games.

I was very much for getting Cam Newton, but the difference here is he would have had an entire spring and the fall to learn the new offense, and Newton also would have been here two years in all likelihood. That's huge. If Masoli had been kicked out of school sooner, I would probably be OK with getting him.

And the thing is, assuming I'm right, if Relf beats him out, there is a much greater chance that Masoli would be a trouble maker and cause problems. Why bring that upon ourselves?

And then let's say I'm wrong and we start Masoli anyway, what kind of a message does that send to Chris Relf? To his credit, Relf has really stepped up and become a leader per player interviews, and based on what I saw in the spring game has improved his overall game. Chris has done nothing to lose the job. I think that would definately send him the wrong message, and it may take away the motivation and confidence that he has gained. So, someone explain to me what the benefit is again?

I honestly don't care what the media would think about us. If they base our entire University, and my degree over us getting a QB with a questionable past, then they are an idiot. And I went to the same school that bailed Derrick Taite out no less than four times during his career at MSU. We were called "thugs" and "outlaws" when we had Jackie in that late '90's, but that didn't really upset me- the Raiders had the same reputation. What actually upset me more was the fact that they would unjustly put down our schedule and insinuate that we weren't as good as we really were mainly because he had Sherrill as our coach. That was ********.

on the team and they will probably feel like they could have done just as well with their Buddy in at QB. I know, when I feel like one of my firends has gotten screwed, I usually get pissed. Everyone is going to be a little biased, one way or the other.

A quarterback made for our offense. Relf and Russell get someone else to learn from. Just gives us so many options. Ole Miss is lucky to have him. Lawrence Roberts type deal here. Right place, right time.<div>
</div><div>Anyone who thinks it'd be a stain on our program's reputation is naive.</div>

Seriously.... he would've been a Heisman candidate in a very, very, very similar offense to us. I would've welcomed him with open arms.<div>
</div><div>Obviously, his off the field actions doesn't lead one to believe that he's very smart... but if he's actually an intelligent kid and can learn an offense quickly, he makes Ole Miss much more scary this year.</div>

According to his stats, and we all know how accurate those usually are. I have heard Relf is a solid 6' 3".

when you compare this to Lawrence Roberts. Roberts left Baylor on his own, after one teammate murdered another one. He wasnt thrown out of school on his ear after he was arrested for the third time in 5 years like that POS.

and that's the truth. Ole Miss fans will not agree obviously. My source? Finebaum. The dude can't predict a football game to save his life but he has the best connections around about rumors and coaching searches etc. etc. ie anything off the field of play. He says Nutt has been trying to get out since he got there. The Auburn and Clemson had plenty of fire behind them. Look at his track records of predicting where coaches will end up. You can't deny it.

"Great. A QB for one year. Relf and Russell are still our quarterbacks, I bet they are pissed." Same when I thought Cam Newton was coming to State.

Yeah, it may be the MSU way of thinking. I don't care. I'm just not in the transfer QB camp unless you really have NOBODY. Makes more sense for Ole Miss.

However it does make me wonder why we went after Newton so hard if we were confident in our own QBs. BUT, we were recruiting him well before Relf began his "maturation" process and really took the reins.

We got lucky that a player as good as Roberts was looking to transfer, chose State, and didn't have to sit out a year. Plug Masoli and Ole Miss into that statement and you have the exact same thing.<div>

I dont know where to buy any weed for him for the trip though.

I would have welcomed him with the marching band at State spelling out Masoli on the damn practice field. He and Relf would have been great to have for the season

if I want a transfer player with baggage, I want one who:

A) is a star (Masoli qualifies, Patterson doesn't)

AND

B) will benefit me for at least two years (Patterson qualifies, Masoli doesn't)

This football. Hard to come in and gel with a team right away. Even in basketball, it took Dontae Jones half a year to get his act together. It ended well, but there's not playoff in college football.

Looking at it objectively, they guy is a thug and he doesn't need to be playing college football this year. But he's a good enough player that I wouldn't have bitched much if we had taken him, and I'm not going to ***** that Mississippi has taken him.
