I know there is thread somewhere with a zillion comments but I'll ask for the " dummy" version.
Is buying a Roku elite or 2019 version of Roku the easiest way to watch UK games / Fox News / ESPN and its affiliates , and the SECN while at work with no cable ? I have good internet . I suppose you buy the box , hook it up to a smart TV , maybe pay 10-20 a month for a streaming service and its that simple ? I know many people talk about using App's -- I assume you put the app on the smart TV - correct ? Sorry but I'm no tech geek at all.

Do you have cable at home? If so, you just add the ESPN app to your Roku/FireTV/AppleTV and login with your cable credentials.

and I'm sure I have cable credentials - but I'd have no clue what/where they are.

1. Buy a Roku
2. Download the ESPN and Fox News apps
3. Login with your cable username and password

^ That's you're only legal option unless you want to double pay for cable.

You're not my grandparent so you're going to have to fend for yourself on the rest.

While we're on the subject, what kind of ridiculous BS is it that the ESPN+ service doesn't have access to, y'know' live SPORTS? (I know there are a few, but not the ones I want)

ESPN charges providers over 4 times the amount of the next most expensive cable channel per customer ($8-$9 vs. $1.50-$2 for Fox News and TNT). If they included ESPN on ESPN+ they'd undercut the strangle hold they have on cable/satellite companies.

Another question - difference between Roku premier / Ultra etc etc ? and is Roku any better than Firestick4K ?

4k is a waste unless you pay extra for services that offer 4k broadcasts. For instance, you don't get any 4k with Netflix unless you get the higher tier package. I prefer the Roku because it isn't one big Amazon advertisement like the Firestick. Unless you have Amazon Prime and a bunch of Alexa devices I don't think it's worth it to get a Firestick. In my opinion I think the Roku sticks run better and look much cleaner.

As others have said, if you download the right apps you can use your cable login and watch those channels for free. Only other way is to cancel cable and get something like SlingTV, Hulu Live TV, or YouTube TV (just pick the one that had all the channels you want). Then you can watch those anywhere on any device. You still want to get the ESPN app because we have games that run long before ours and you might have to use the ESPN app to catch the start of some of the games. Plus occasionally we have a game on SEC Network + and not all of the services include that channel but it is on the app.

ESPN+ for $4.99 is great to have if you watch UFC, boxing, college basketball in general. I get to watch a lot of the WKU games, as they are very seldom on TV or their local network thru Stadium TV,

That doesn't include major conferences though. You don't get any of our games on ESPN+. I wish you could pay like $20 a month and get all of the ESPN channels without needing any streaming service or if you had to put it with something else just include it with a Disney+ package.

So I entered my zip code and I'm in the Huntington/Charleston area. Town next door puts me in the area where I'll receive WYMT and Lexington locals, which I prefer. Would Youtube TV allow me to receive the Lexington locals?

Whatever pops up when you entered your zip code is what you likely get.

With YouTube TV, you get ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN News and the SECN in addition to Fox Sports 1 & 2, NBA TV, your regional Fox Sports station, Big Ten Network. So yes, you'll get all of the UK games and all the other sports you can stand. It's an excellent value.

Love it. Just dropped Spectrum (TV/phone, not internet). Got rid of 4 boxes and 300+ channels of crap, doubled my internet speed and saved over $150 a month. Plus, I get all the channels my family watches plus a few extras we didn't have before and unlimited DVR I was worried I wouldn't get all the sports channels, which turned out to be completely unfounded.

In my area (NKY), I get NBA TV, SEC, BigTen and ACC Networks, CBSSN, ESPN/2/U/News, Fox Sports Ohio/Ohio Plus/South, FS1 and 2, Golf, Olympic and Tennis Channels, NBCSN and MLB Network. Plus all the sports from the local channels.

I have cable. I was not talking about UK games. I was talking about random college games, boxing, UFC, etc. I love sports, ESPN+ for $5 a month allows me access to a lot of sports I normally would not receive. That was my point, not UK based, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Oh I know. Just makings sure the other poster didn't get confused about it. In a previous discussion a lot of people were confusing ESPN+ with alternate channels on WatchESPN. They thought the SEC Network+ was apart of ESPN+ and it's not.

I assume so if the lexington channels were listed after you entered your zip code.

There are multiple services similar to Youtube TV. Hulu Live, Sling TV, etc. Most have similar lineups but not exactly the same channels. I would make a list of the channels you watch the most and compare those to the channels offered by each streaming service and pick the one that best fits your needs. I personally have Hulu Live. I picked it because it had a few channels that I watch that I couldn't get with other services. I wouldn't just sign up for Hulu or Youtube without doing a comparison of what you watch and what they provide.

Something to consider—youtube tv has unlimited dvr, which saves recordings for nine months.

Very specific question here. With YoutubeTV you can have 3 simultaneous streams going. What if you’re using the ESPN app with YoutubeTV credentials like I do with Spectrum, I.e. not using the spectrum app? Does that count as one of the three streams?

I actually never have enough people using mine (Hulu) to be able to see if ESPN counts against my limit. Might have to give it a try.

Just tried to do a test and failed to figure anything out. Hulu Live TV has 2 streams at a time. I put 2 TV's on Hulu Live TV and the 3rd on ESPN app and all 3 were working. To take it a step further, I changed the 3rd one to Hulu Live TV waiting to get an error and it played just fine as well. So I got 3 streams working at least for a few minutes with no issue. So I don't know what was up.

Still get live UK sports ??

Yes. I was scared to cut the cord two years ago right before the college football season started. Only regret is I wish I would have switched to Youtube sooner. I have never missed a game.

They have a 7 day free trial. Try it out before and I bet you cut the cord after 48hrs. After two days I was good to go. The app on the phone is great as well. Can watch live AND DVR from it.

Wait, so you can still have DVR? I am techically challenged so I am going to ask some questions that will seem pretty dumb I guess.
This is what I want to do. Keep Spectrum internet but get rid of the cable. How do you still have DVR with YouTube TV? How does that work if you don't have a DVR device like with cable or Satellite TV?

Works kind of like cloud storage on phones. You click to record it on the guide and it saves it in the cloud. You can rewatch it by selecting it in your saved stuff or delete it when you are done with it.

How exactly does the positive traction on a Plymouth work? It just does.

I’d recommend YouTubeTv for Roku. $59 a month includes local network channels, all ESPNs including SECN, news channels including Fox. Unlimited Cloud DVR. Up to six devices can use it at once including laptops, tablets and phones. Didn’t miss a UK football or basketball game all year.
