Question about the FBI.

When do they get involved in a investigation? When a crime has been committed or when a possible crime may have been committed?
I guess either way the Newton's are in trouble. If the NCAA calls, it means nothing. It's not like lying is going to land you in jail however once the FBI gets involved that's not the case. Lying to them can get you put in jail. Tim Brando made a good point today. With the FBI involved this issue will be solved very fast because where one might lie or even not cooperate with the NCAA, that's not going to happen with the FBI.

Which in fact, is a federal offense. So the fact that it has been an attempt of extortion, I would assume is a prosecutable offense.

as for this speeding up I don't know. With all these folks lawyering up it may take more time. Thenagain this could lead to a deal and it will be over by Christmas.

This opens a sinister can of worms that didn't even come out in the Albert Means case (though I may be wrong; too lazy to look it up).


Anyway, if it takes an actual crime to have been committed to get the FBI involved, or just the possibility of a crime, that's a good question. I don't know the answer.

The most simple crime that can be proven in this case is tax evasion and conspiracy to commit tax evasion. If funds were comingled through Cecil's business, you have money laundering.

Rogers and his partner are the real one's here that would be of interest. If they have done this type of deal in the past, then there activities definately cross state lines and of significant interest to the FBI. Cecil and Cam would be collateral damage.
