mean the SEC-haters are right and the conference as a whole is down this year? Or does it mean it's still the best conference, just not as top heavy in the past? Does the fact MSU is now 4th in SECW and tied for 5th in the league overall mean the conference is on a down swing?

...is that the SEC is as strong as it has ever been overall. They just don't have that one team that's head-and-shoulders better than everyone else. If you give me one game on a neutral field between Oklahoma/Oregon/Boise and the SEC winner, I still like the SEC's chances. The question is whether we'll get that chance because I think the SEC champion this yearis going to have one loss at least.

UF, UGA, UT...ouch

Bama is Bama.

I'd say Auburn is about par for Auburn

LSU is typical LSU, only they're off schedule on QB development thanks to Per-ah-who

The middle tier is legitimately a little strong than normal.

Down year? Maybe compared to the last few years. Best conference top to bottom in the country? Yes.

I think the problem is that all the strength in the SEC is in the West. Usually you will have 2 or 3 really strong teams and 2 of those 3 will not play each other til the SECCG. When the rest of the country looks at the SEC, they look to see who is going to win the East and who will win the West, but this year the East is way down and makes it look as if the entire SEC is down as well. Hell the top 3 teams are all about to play each other over the next few weeks just to decide who plays in the SECCG.
