So my wife and I's 12 year wedding anniversary is coming up and we have a vacation package to Orlando, Florida. I know that the zika virus is more known to be in the Miami area, but does anyone know how safe the Orlando area is? My wife is 2 months pregnant. Being around the ocean is really enticing. But, any real chance of danger and it's a definite no!

From the CDC as of December:

The risk is not high, especially if you stay indoors and use mosquito repellent. With that said, if it were my wife that was pregnant, we wouldn't take the risk. A vacation is much less important than having a healthy child. Not judging you whatever you choose, but I wouldn't go.

Why risk it?

Last year during the height of the Zika concern we changed our plans from Jamaica to Scottsdale. My wife was pregnant and I just couldn't accept the risk, no matter how minor.

That being said, my best buddy and his wife went to South America during the same time and she was preggo. They had zero issues.

When we were going through our trip change my wife spoke with a doctor at UNMC/Munroe Meyer who is an infectious disease doctor. Beth Conover. My wife called her and she was super helpful. I would highly suggest giving her a call. She took care of the Zika people at UNMC.
