From what I have read, the merger is contingent upon Rivals/Yahoo approving it. It's out of Michael, Paul, and Logan's hands. I think there is a number of other sites that are either new or merging in front of BDJ. When Rivals gets to it, that's when the merger will be complete.

I gave them $100 for a lifetime membership to view a free board.

BDJ was worth the money, but it sure seems like they were cashing in what they could then decided Rivals was probably a more steady gig for them.

I signed up too, but it's not like you're not getting the articles, daily biscuits, or anything else.

Plus once the merger goes down, the "Dawg Pound" board is going to be removed anyway.

They had a great site, and that's why I got a lifetime membership. I can't imagine the new finished product being better than what they had. Meanwhile, we're all being told to be patient.

I just have to shake my head at the notion of anyone paying money for a "lifetime membership" for an internet based anything. Whose lifetime? The board's? Yours? The internet? Was this ever clearly explained or defined? Are you sure, or did you simply make the assumption?

PT Barnum was correct.

I signed up for one of those "lets make a deal" emails last summer. I offered like $15 for a year. They agreed. After being on there for a week I did decided it would be worth $100 per year. About a week later I got the email that a lifetime spot opened up. I figured I could either renew in 12 months at $100 for the year or I could go ahead and purchase this lifetime spot now for $100.

I'm an opportunist.

....but I paid 200 bucks for almost three years of BDJ instead of 10 bucks a month. And I will still never pay again. Worked fine for me.

Couple points in defense of the "lifetime" deal. First, if you refuse to pay for any content then you'll never be convinced that a lifetime membership is a good idea. There are plenty of people who would rather just get their info from SPS. But, if you are willing to pay for content then 100 for a "lifetime" deal is a bargain even if the site only lasts a year.

If everything works out and the lifetime members are granted lifetime membership to rivals then that 100 deal is even more valuable because Rivals isn't going to be going under anytime soon. I had my doubts that BDJ would last just due to financing. It takes a lot of money for one person to make a living on a webiste. They had at least 2 plus I assume a few free lance writers or interns they paid a little money. I didn't expect them to make it but I took a chance that they could make it at least a year. I still don't expect Paul, Michael, and Logan to remain at Rivals. One or two will have to leave because if history has taught us anything, the MSU Rivals site isn't going to generate enough Revenue to support 3 people.

I feel like if the site went under today I got my 100 worth and won't be upset. Everything I get from Rivals going forward is gravy.

I struggled with the definition of what is "lifetime" as well when the initial offering was put out by Wardlaw in 2008....ultimately my assumption was as long as BDJ was in business, so then I assumed the business would last approximately 3-4 years given that there were obvious bumps in the road ahead with growing membership, etc. From there it became: did I like the content, what their mission was, and the basic economics of the offering based on my assumptions

as much about a message board as the people who are coming from BDJ to Rivals. It's amazing.

I'm just glad I had previous access to Rivals, because what they're putting in the Dawg Pound right now is pretty interesting. I guess since it's "premium" premium content, they can be a lot more open about things.

When I signed up for the Lifetime plan, I gambled. In a worst case scenario, it was still a better deal than I got all those $100/years on Swan Lake. I feel like I made out like a bandit...

I've sunk $115 into BDJ, I feel like I got my moneys worth. BDJ was great and I never had any complaints about slow responses that you see on here now. If I get access to premium rivals sites for free, great, its a helluva deal.

But then the BDJ staff tells you to be patient that the transition might take a while, I'm fine with that. Then nothing happens, then you see people saying that its out of Wardlaws hands and left up to Yahoo/Rivals to make the call you start to think your "lifetime" membership is gone.

If it is, then so be it, but I would have hated to been one of those people that purchased a $200 "last chance lifetime membership before the merge."

ETA: I'm NOT really complaining in the title.
