In the last class, we have filled pretty much every need from a position standpoint, except for pitching.
I think we will offer Brandon Woodruff- he is a LH pitcher/outfielder from Wheeler, which is near Tupelo. He can allegedly top out at 95 (per Gene), but he is also a guy that has good size- 6'4", he hit over .530 last year and he performed well in the Sun Belt Classic. I think he will be a dual position guy for us.
I do think we will offer Will Cox. He was visiting Ole Miss a couple of weeks ago, but he was supposed to visit us this past week or next week, so we have the last visit. We need him badly, I think he could be a weekend SEC guy. He is 6'4", but I don't know how hard he throws. He made second team All-State as a junior.
I suspect we will offer Brandon Alford, a middle infielder from Clinton as well. He has had a great summer. He missed most of last year with a blood clot in his arm, but he still hit .440 or so in very limited action. He already had offers from UAB and Memphis as a sophomore.
Jonathan Holder from Gulfport is another guy that we have been looking at. He is 6'3", and he was topping out at 90 MPH in the State Games recently. He also plays third base for them.
Spencer Turnbull from Madison Central is a guy that has really come on the scene since he pitched in the State Championship game. He can top out at about 92-93, and he has a pretty good breaking ball. He was hurt some last year- non-arm injury.
His teammate, Josh Laxer was topping out at 94 in the state games as well. I think he is a Ole Miss lean though.
Scott Votaw is a guy that is 6'4" and plays for Lawrence County. He pitches, but I think most people see him as an outfielder in college. He was topping out at 87 at the State Games. He has a big frame, and made the Louisville Slugger pre-season AA team as a junior.
Nick Johnson from Ridgeland is a very good pitcher who was topping out at 89 at the State Games. He's kind of a grinder.
We do have a commitment from Trevor Fitts, who I really think could be a Friday night guy for us. He went 14-0 last year with well over 100 K's and had an ERA of 0.91. He was named the Alabama 6A pitcher of the year as a junior.
The most important thing for us to get out of this class is 2-3 good pitchers. We have one with Fitts already. I think Woodruff would be a dual- position guy for us. But I would still like to get two more at least.
