Question for board experts re: recycled posters

I have always been curious about when some posters who appear to be new join, they are after awhile labeled as recycled posters or retreads or "same agenda. new name", stuff like that. The question is, how are recycled posters identified? Is it because they use the same phrases as before? Is it because they PM somebody and say "I have a new name?" Is there some way to see the IP addresses and know the same address has a different name? Anyway, I always wondered about that.

While I'm no expert, the thing I always pick up on is flag-bearing. Some people's posting agenda is so narrow that there really can't be more than one person running the same posts out there time and again. Language and sentence structure (or lack thereof) are secondary identifiers.

We have access to their IP's and we can see if that IP has been shared and what other names that IP has been shared with. Or, we can see what kind of an IP they have and if it's an IP that hides them I will almost ban them every time. Then there are the ones that have been members for 10 years and only have 3 or 4 posts. That's a red flag for me. I'll usually start checking on those types.

I've seen people with different screen names argue with themselves and agree with themselves.
They forgot to change accounts.
I don't know whether to feel sorry for them, or be worried about what what kind of person does that and why?

When I see that I try to figure out which one I should ban. Winking

Haha. Yep. I banned a dude that replied to his own post one time and argued with himself. I almost felt sorry for the dude.

OK, thanks all for the insight. Yeah, I used to have a guy in the next cube who talked to himself. That was bad enough, but he answered himself in a different voice - creepy.

Couple months ago my wife and I took a trip to Vail to enjoy the aspens in their fall splendor and had one heckuva time. So much so, when I woke up one morning and had some time to kill I hopped onto HI and attempted to read and post a few things...I was so foggy that morning that I created another account without realizing what I was doing (thought I was just signing in)...It's called "litespeedaddict". So if you ever see "litespeedaddict" & "litespeedhuskerfan" arguing with each other....feel free to ban both.

How pitiful of a life do you have to have to create another username to agree and like yourself? That's pretty bad.

People actually do this? I have a hard enough time justifying a single account because at the end of the day posting on message boards is about the least productive thing I can think of. I can't imagine the level of pathetic it takes to have multiple accounts just to stir the pot with a bunch of faceless people sitting behind a keyboard...

We have a handful of guys that have been banned under a dozen or more aliases over the years. My favorites are the guys that have 2 separate accounts to post and think they are slick. The only person they fool is themselves.

In your opinion are most these guys pushing an agenda or are they just off the deep end?

I can actually see people creating another username to agree and slobber all over their original username. But to argue??? That's a whole different level of crazy!

You mean like this?

I would contend that this current recruiting class is better than most of coach bo`s but not significantly
How is this current recruiting class better than most of coach bo`s?

With any luck the dominant personality that eventually wins out ends up being halfway tolerable.

I forgot my other account name, so I made this one. Never post with this one either.
